Agreed. And it is frustrating the “solution” to mental illness in Ex Sci is to prescribe exercise without asking why they weren’t already active. The lit promotes ExRx like it’s a weight loss program claiming it will bring economic relief for health cost. #mydissinatweet
This was & still is a sad reality for many LGBT people of school sport. Having a long lasting affect into adult life.
Physical activity is intrinsically linked to mental health. We owe it to our community to continue to break down those barriers to sport......
I don't know about you, but every faculty member and student I've spoken with this week is completely burnt out. It's not even the end of September. What are we doing? How do we make this less ... whatever it is?
@AcademicChatter Also being prepared with mental health support postpartum would be important. Grad school is already bad for mental health and new parents need a lot of support.
@AcademicChatter Yes. But good to know who in your Dept are supportive. My advisors were supportive of both of my kids mid PhD. That + big teaching load extended time to completion. That is annoying bc jobs don’t see that as “normal time”. Adjusting for kids, I fall in normal range. 🤷♀️
Please restore my faith in the science community and like this tweet or comment if you knew before September 2020 that using your voice as a scientist is important and critical to advancing the research, culture, and nature of science. And tell me WHY in the comments. Let's talk.
I gave a presentation today and used such expressive gestures that my FitBit informed me that I reached 10,000 steps halfway through the talk. I was sitting.
After Breonna was shot, her boyfriend called 911. He called because she needed help, and because he didn't think the cops would help her. He was right. They didn't. She received no medical attention until the ambulance he called arrived, 20 minutes later. I think about that alot.
The latest data from @Illinois_Alma gives us data-forward picture of the "lockdown" success: the 7-day average number of new cases is down by more than 75% after the two-week "lockdown" from where it started. 🎉

@Momademia@AcademicChatter in practical terms what are departments doing to support faculty with young children right now? I’m the only one in my department and it’s tough to tell what that should reasonably look like.
I sent below request to chair of Big 10 Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases requesting the IRB approvals
Yes, I'm doing this in public
Yes, if you are on a Big 10 campus you should request the IRB approvals for this research from your office of human subjects research
This plus a little Tuskegee-flavored cherry on top: Michigan plans to study the long term health consequences of COVID in players who do become ill. Fuckuppery squared.
NEW: As Pres. Trump pushed the Big Ten to restart college football, the White House offered to provide the conference with enough COVID-19 tests for play to begin, a university official briefed on the matter and a senior Trump administration official said. https://t.co/jbKMT2E7D5
