@tjjonah@BradSchoenfeld Tim, yes we used volume load displacement of what each lifter actually performed in the study as our estimate of work.
This other study from the same data collection goes deeper into the differences of work/stress between groups:

@BradSchoenfeld@EBryceLee Also it has been my experience/observation that many who utilize training to failure are doing it very frequently in practice, whether it is intentional or not. (2/2)
@BradSchoenfeld@EBryceLee I mostly agree here, but I think it is important to note that many of the recommendations I see advocating for failure training make a lot of blanket statements, ex- โ...as long as sets are taken to failureโ. (1/2)
@drcodyhaun I donโt think of it in terms of logical/illogical but in terms of order/chaos. Training and sport are chaotic- periodization aims to bring order out of chaos.

Willardson has a fair amount in this space, mainly dealing with rest intervals
@dr_jump_uk I think this is representative that strength is developed in a long-term process with respect to periods of intensification, accumulation, and planned recovery. It also reiterates to me that constantly high relative intensities are not the way.

@CoachVanBlarcom @Coach_Beau So athletic trainers are support staff too. Should they follow orders from the head coach? This type of thinking youโve outlined is exactly why S&C isnโt taken seriously in many circles. As an athletic department are you hiring servants or specialists?
@Dr_DeFreitas citing the previous work. That being said, it is a weird situation. Could you maybe get permissions from the first paperโs journal to include those data in the supplement of the current work? That way, people can see the data but itโs not in the formal analysis? (2/2)
@Dr_DeFreitas I think there is starting to be a push for more data from a single project being put into fewer pubs. Which in theory I am in agreement with. Thatโs not the question here though. In my opinion, having those data in the current pub would probably be useful beyond just... (1/2)
New paper from Roberts Lab on #muscle and #fascia suggests:
"the assumption underlying most isolated muscle experiments, i.e., removal of a muscle from its situation in vivo does not influence its maximal mechanical output, may need reexamining" https://t.co/rfAFIkTWht
