"Imagine a doctor prescribing a drug to 100 patients & finding 95 of them didn’t take it as prescribed. That is the situation with many online math interventions in K–12 education. They are a solution for the 5%. The other 95% see minimal gains, if any." https://t.co/o6zzWrwcZo
I was asked to reconsider the term 'Science of Reading' because it's divisive + makes some people uncomfortable?
Well, centering what's comfortable for adults is partly how we got here in the first place. So no.

When looking at your next step, it's not about taking your classroom and totally transforming it overnight.
It's acknowledging how one thing you're doing is excluding some learners. And then minimizing that by providing a different pathway for your students say, tomorrow.

Assessment doesn't close opportunity gaps. Instruction does. All kids deserve instruction that builds their proficiency & success. These effects are from one of our RCTs. We have hundreds of real-life examples.
Very thankful for everyone who shared @AIMtoLearn Symposium yesterday. Taking it back to @inwoodacademy Thank you to @NancyBlair2 and Pat for their leadership.
At @AIMtoLearn listening to state literacy director for Mississippi DOE. There is absolutely no miracle. This is hard and courageous work done by knowledgeable educators.
I get heated when newspapers and politicians refer to improved reading in MS as the "Mississippi Miracle". It's straight from the slop-trough of disconnected elitism. The only miracle is they'd rather let kids fail than take guidance from "those people".
"Hello", California.
Beyond excited to be at Plain Talk About Literacy and Learning! @brewerhm is reminding us that literacy is the key to power and nothing short of 100% pass rates are acceptable.
