Instead, the Democratic Party outsources this work to establishment media brands/figures, none of which are positioned to serve as an opposition to fascism. They are largely responding to narratives created within MAGA World, and so they ultimately advance those narratives.

MAGA and the GOP, like the WWE, have a self-contained version of reality that offers with it an immediate community. The Democrats have no such interactive narrative framework/storyline.

@jonfavs I hope you and yours consider the lesson, too.

@egavactip Typewriters are great too, for journaling and letter writing.

@michaeldweiss Are we not in a runaway security state? Did we win the wars? Are they actually over? Who benefited?

@Timodc January 2024, a year before Trump’s second inauguration, I published this piece, knowing the far right would eventually pretend the reason for their extremism and violence was somehow forced, as if they lack autonomy. That’s their playbook. It’s not new.

@MattGertz You might appreciate this essay I wrote after attending RFK Jr’s 3rd party announcement in Philly: https://t.co/2x2yIkIXh7

@stuartpstevens @JesseBWatters I examined this trend back in 2022. It has only gotten worse since then, except now it is so normalized that the mainstream media doesn’t even seem interested in the connection. Pretty fucking crazy!

@NormOrnstein I wrote about this back in 2022, specifically looking at the shift among conservatives on Russia. Personally, I think it’s the work of algorithms and targeted money. Probably blackmail too, but who knows. Also a lot of cowards. https://t.co/KFd9ix9Bkn

@TVietor08 Is this really what you think? You should watch Trump’s AIPAC speech from March 2016. First speech he gave with a teleprompter. I was there in person and walked out because of the reception he received — standing ovations. Has nothing to do with Obama.

@davidaxelrod with all due respect, “we did deportations better and what’s happening is for TV” is terrible messaging. We spent an evening together in Albany in 2013 - if you would like to connect with someone outside of the liberal consulting class bubble, please do reach out

[David Axelrod @davidaxelrod]

.@BarackObama deported far more illegal immigrants than Trump, targeting those w/criminal records & the newly arrived. It was done carefully, responsibly & lawfully.
What we're seeing in LA is calculated to provoke & escalate. It's a made-for TV reality show, produced by Donald J. Trump.

Democrats: Look at polls to determine their narrative

Republicans: Use their narrative to influence polls

And so, the Overton window keeps moving rightward

In modern America, most journalism is unsourced gossip/collusion between friends.

Who defines what the truth is? Or what reality is?

These are meaningless questions in our current unreality. Instead, metaphor and symbolism are used to convey deeper messages.

In a world where meaning is meaningless, true meaning is intentionally hidden behind sleight of hand

[Nick Butler (Archived) @DrNickButler]

Another thing that has very little meaning now: language.

Rhetoric is much more important than grammar or the accuracy of statements. Instead, we’re in an ecosystem of vibes and feels.

It’s critical we talk to people where they’re at and tell them the truth.

[Nick Butler (Archived) @DrNickButler]

The discourse re: progressives versus liberals doesn’t interest me too much, because it’s a clear distraction advanced by the right, which will soon have complete control of the American government. They want to divide those who will stand united against their war on reality.

[Nick Butler (Archived) @DrNickButler]

We’re now locked on the path toward illiberal democracy (at best) or autocracy/authoritarianism. This hasn’t registered for most people yet.

Intentional world-building and narrative creation are central to the left’s ability to re-established shared meaning in American society.
