Donald Trump could announce The Sky is Green and after three weeks of agreement (agreenment?) the New York Times would report an emerging consensus that, upon looking up, many people think the sky may be actually be reverting to its Pre-Green Hue.
- new bunker
- new fences
- new fortified door
- firing election officials
- blood sports on the South Lawn
- pardons for previous insurrectionists
- monetary support for previous insurrectionists
- hyper-funded rogue police force with lax background checks
- etc, etc, etc.
@daveweigel@ChrisCillizza@betsy_klein any thoughts?? Anything at all????
It’s not just the columns… The White House is upgrading its front door to fortify the entrance - a project that will take until September

Trump on Fox News: "Spencer Pratt came up to my office, thought he won…They found millions of ballots and they took the election away from him. They almost did it to Steve Hilton. I complained and got the U.S. Attorney involved and the FBI…These elections are really dishonest."
Having Donald Trump and Bibi Netanyahu invited on television to remember your "life and legacy" is absolutely hilarious. A known pedophile and an indicted war criminal.
American media is beyond broken: It's a cancer on our democracy and culture.
Senator Lindsey Graham was scheduled to appear on @MeetThePress this morning.
It would have been his 64th appearance on this broadcast.
We are sending our deepest condolences to his family and colleagues.
President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will join us this morning to reflect on his life and legacy.
When I see slop content like this from @daveweigel & @ChrisCillizza, I’m reminded that they could be using their platform to talk about anything meaningful, dozens of potential topics, but instead use it to advance Beltway Brunch Gossip that ensures they maintain Access. Great!
Colbert continued: "But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!
Because really, what incentive do these people have to answer your questions, after all? I mean, nothing satisfies you. Everybody asks for personnel changes. So the White House has personnel changes. Then you write, "Oh, they're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic." First of all, that is a terrible metaphor. This administration is not sinking. This administration is soaring. If anything, they are rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg!"
An observation on Most Modern Journalists, particularly those active on this platform:
They share so many tweets/retweets that they hope you never realize their role in American society has become simply regurgitating anonymous slop or whatever the Admin wants them to see/say.
Colbert's WHCD speech comes to mind:
"Over the last five years you people were so good — over tax cuts, WMD intelligence, the effect of global warming. We Americans didn't want to know and you had the courtesy not to try to find out! Those were good times, as far as we knew."
Chris makes a great point here: The media is not to blame for Platner's withdrawal. The media, as they tend to do with Democrats, correctly covered his many scandals.
Now, what about Trump, who fomented an insurrection? Who, before that, tried an administrative coup? Who then had dinner with a neo-Nazi and said "I like him, this guy gets me." Who we know spent significant time with Jeffrey Epstein? Who is credibly accused of sexual abuse and rape? Who lies every day? Who can't remember basic names or countries? Who, it's clear to anyone not consumed by the MAGA Unreality that currently holds control over the Beltway Brunch Scene, is a sick and deranged man? Who has built concentration camps across the United States? Who has been exactly this person -- this evil, insane person -- for a decade now, as a candidate and as president?
Well, here's the problem: Chris, along with most establishment media, has spent more time covering Joe Biden's age -- both before, during, and after the 2024 election -- than they have covering Donald Trump's connections to Russia, Saudi Arabia, white nationalists, white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and so on.
Why is that? Why can't the media, or Chris Cillizza, cover Donald Trump with the same vigor and commitment as they do Joe Biden? Why did Jake Tapper go 45 minutes in the June 2024 debate without mentioning Trump's many crimes and incitement to violence? Why have they failed -- since 2015 and 2021 and 2024 -- to correctly frame this insane lunatic who, it must be said, they helped win re-election with their in-kind contributions and kid-glove coverage?
A big reason is because Donald Trump is entertaining to cover. He picks up the phone. He gives the establishment media their soundbites, clips, and hits. He gets ratings and clicks. His staffers talk, and talk, and talk. He's the center of their known universe.
Drinking from the poisoned faucet of fascism, these types don't dare challenge the source of their success.
There's no excuse for it. Or at least none that has been offered to me yet. So, I will spend the rest of my life writing about the failure of these people to use their platform, to exercise their power as the Fourth Estate, to curb the rise of a known con man, a joke, a racist, a coward, an evil, deeply sick person. Let there be no doubt: they *should* know better and plenty of people -- activists, artists, and academics -- have told them over and over and over again for a decade where this movement ultimately goes.
And yet, they keep drinking from the faucet, pretending everything is fine and ignoring that it's about to get worse. But hey, maybe Dave Portnoy will be your friend!
Blaming the media for his withdrawal is beyond laughable.
Graham Platner posted that stuff on Reddit. Graham Platner got the Nazi tattoo. Graham Platner behaved that way with girlfriends.
Give me a break.
One of my earliest attempts at satire, June 14, 2009:
"Donald Trump, the owner of every beauty pageant in the world, is set to make a decision on whether or not [Iran's] Ahmadinejad will keep his crown. 'I know Ahmadinejad is a fantastic person, he really has spirit. But my decision in the end will be based off how much money I can make,' he added 'and I may say he can keep it, only to change my decision a few weeks later.'"

@ChrisCillizza@stoolpresidente (who I admire) is hilarious
I'd say never change but you've made it clear you have no interest in changing, regardless of reality
@daveweigel Please, @daveweigel, give me the President's cell phone number. This could be my big break!!
Think of your poor colleagues from Axios & NYT & WashPo who would love to retweet my Exclusive Transcription of the Mr. President's response to Jill Biden still existing in July 2026!
Yes, the news cycles move fast. Great observation!
Who controls the news cycles? The news?
What business are you in, David?
Are there any other stories you can think of that might be worth reminding people, aside from the Biden Family's existence?
Anything at all????????
Let's remember how fast news cycles move. One month ago, Jill Biden published a memoir that re-litigated the 2024 election, and you forgot all about it until you read this tweet.
Feel free to share this with your colleagues, @daveweigel. Could be helpful!
And let me know if you're willing to share President Trump's phone number with me -- I'd love to ask him about Jill Biden.
