✔️ Colchicine
At follow-up, pain, swelling and finger movements had improved significantly.

When CPPD occurs in a young individual, search for a metabolic or genetic cause.

A 38-year-old woman presented with a painful, swollen, erythematous hand for 15 days.

❌ No fever
❌ No trauma
❌ No previous arthritis
❌ No response to analgesics
MRI suggested calcific periarthritis
But that wasn't the final diagnosis.

Whenever CPPD presents in a young patient, don't stop at making the diagnosis.

Look for secondary causes:

• Hemochromatosis
• Hyperparathyroidism
• Hypomagnesemia
• Hypophosphatasia
• Gitelman syndrome
• Genetic causes (e.g., ANKH mutation)
