@DrGW0 @allan_xu Too many exams. What did they get you but brain fade andMultiple diplomatosis? You have to be moderately intelligent to be a doctor, but communication and caring is just as important as the seeum rhubarb. Try being an ordinary doctor - it’s them that are needed

@Dr_Done_ Other profeessions - solicitors, barristers, etc, still regulate their own professions . We carelessly lost the chance through laziness.

@Dr_Done_ The GMC is now a quango - appointed by government to act as an arm of government policy. It used to represent the expected clinical and professional behaviour , and was elected by all doctors. So few doctors voted (less than 30%) that we lost the right to appoint .

@RhonddaBryant Chris - why do you think that ministers, let alone senior civil servants - are capable of coherrent or practical thought? My experience of negotiating with them is that they know nothing about the coal face

@DoctorAngry @kilgore_cliff @Trisha_the_doc @DorsetHealth I remember 16 meds for a patient after discharge - an 88 year old who was on 4 before an admission for a fall. Took a couple of weeks to get it back down to the 4 that were actually needed again. Medicine tends to go down blund rabbit holes.

@KatPaton13 Please don’t. It will get better, honestly. It may be shit now, but there are patients (and colleagues) out there who need you, and who will appreciate you when you’ve survived the bad bit.

@janetm50723412 @drokane Absolutely agree. In the bad old days when GPs did nights on call, these patients were managed where they should be - at home or i. are homes. Now they are subjected to all the trauma of acute medicine trying to cure them of being old and at the end of their lives. So sad.

@ankitkant It’s simple, really. The Consultant is making a clinical decision without seeing the patient and against other medical advice. He is now clinically responsible for the patient and also responsible for the consequencesof the decision. Pointing that out may make them think again.

@MDMDmydecision The Isle of Man Bill to allow assisted dying has just passed its Second Reading (17 for, 7 against). So assisted dying is likely to become legal within 2 years there. A giant step forward.

@jonsopel Surely this a direct breach of the principle of impartiality as enshrined in the BBC Charter. Unless, of course, he offers to speak to the backbenchers of every other political party in the same way, saying the same thing.

@drphilhammond If the corporate manslaughter charge is against the Trust qnd is proved, it will just get a fine, paid by the NHS and further disadvantaging patients. The charge should be brought against the senior managers who made serious errors judgement, as happened to Dr Bawa Garba.

@jennyjwilson3 it’s worth pointing out to any doctor refusing an admission that they are tak8ng medico-legal responsibility for the patient without hav8ng seen them, and against professional advice. And that will not sound good at a GMC hearing or in court.
