NEET-PG: Can zero percentile ever be a qualifying standard?

Every examination has a minimum threshold. We accept 33%, 40% or 50% as a pass requirement in ordinary examinations.

NEET-PG is a competitive examination—but competition should begin among those who have first met a credible minimum standard.

Percentile and percentage marks are not the same. Therefore, the answer is not an arbitrary number. The answer is a scientifically determined minimum qualifying score that cannot simply disappear because seats are vacant.

If PG seats remain vacant, ask why.
Are fees too high? Are some specialties or institutions unattractive? Is distribution distorted? Are working and training conditions a problem?

Investigate the disease; don't lower the laboratory reference range until every result becomes “normal.”

In medicine, that would be unacceptable.

Why should medical education be different?

Fill the seats—but not by emptying the standard.

A strong democracy requires both a strong Government and a responsible Opposition. The Opposition's role is not merely to bring down the Government, but to hold it accountable, offer constructive alternatives, and advocate policies that strengthen the nation.

People feel that, in recent years, political discourse has become increasingly focused on defeating the ruling party rather than engaging in meaningful debates on development, governance, education, healthcare, employment, and other issues that directly impact citizens. Frequent disruptions of parliamentary proceedings can also create the perception that political confrontation is being prioritized over serious policymaking.

A healthy democracy thrives when the Opposition questions the Government, scrutinizes its decisions, and presents credible policy alternatives. However, when the primary focus shifts from constructive engagement to removing the Government, democratic institutions are weakened, and neither the country nor the Opposition benefits in the long run.

Constructive criticism, meaningful policy debates, responsible governance, and healthy political competition are what make India stronger. Governments will change, political parties will rise and fall, but the national interest must always remain above political gain.

On 7 August 2026, Hon’ble Member of Parliament Dr. T. Sumathy (a) Thamizhachi Thangapandian met the Hon’ble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda, and submitted a memorandum highlighting the concerns surrounding the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).

The memorandum raises serious issues regarding the sudden changes in the FMGE examination pattern, the significant increase in difficulty level comparable to postgraduate entrance examinations, the sharp decline in the pass percentage to approximately 12%, which affected nearly 32,000 out of 36,000 candidates, and the lack of transparency in the examination process conducted by NBEMS.

The Hon’ble MP urged the Government to take immediate and appropriate measures to restore fairness and transparency in the examination process. The memorandum also calls for prior notification of major examination pattern changes, greater accountability in the conduct of FMGE, and timely intervention to safeguard the interests of thousands of Indian students who have obtained their medical education abroad and aspire to serve the nation as registered medical practitioners.

✅ Transparency, including answer key/question paper issues
✅ Possibility of legal relaxation/compensation

CBI arrests another key accused connected with the leak of Physics questions in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case

Accused, namely Manisha Sanjay Havaldar, presently working in Seth Hiralal Saraf Prashala, Pune, Maharashtra, has been arrested after thorough interrogation by CBI. She was involved in the NEET UG 2026 Examination process and appointed by NTA as an expert. She had complete access to the Physics question papers. During April 2026, she had shared some of the questions of the NEET UG 2026 Examination pertaining to Physics subject with co-accused Manisha Mandhare (already arrested on 16-05-2026).

So far, 11 accused have been arrested in this case from Delhi, Jaipur, Gurugram, Nasik, Pune, Latur and Ahliyanagar.
