@lukei4655 You have to use property ownership too. In your system, people like Elon Musk, Michael Bloomberg, and Jeff Bezos, who pay millions in taxes, don't get to vote because those taxes come in other forms than income tax. There are people paying more in property taxes than income.
@canonlawyered and @jdflynn, y'all shouldn't be talking about state flag designs if you haven't seen the definitive video by the sometime Ed Condon impersonator @cgpgrey https://t.co/gudTiLi7MA
@sama Integration with a clock (i.e., the ability to know what time it is and to allow it to use a time marker as an event to trigger a response). I want to use it as a productivity coach, to help keep me on task and accountable. Check in with me in an hour and see how much I have done
@lukei4655 Stormlight 3 was the best one, so hard disagree. Your Suneater series though, I kept reading hoping one of the next ones would be as good as the first, but hasn't happened for me.
@lacydelagarza@Brendan_m_Hodge@PillarCatholic We just did a large survey of our enrolled families, and the reasons why they started homeschooling was one of the questions. Avoiding negative environments in public/private schools was top of the list with ability to properly teach the Catholic Faith next. Those two dominated.
@Brendan_m_Hodge@PillarCatholic I am guessing in the rural and suburban areas, that ratio is going to be higher than in urban areas were there are few homeschoolers and sometimes many Catholic school students. I am sure there are parishes with many Catholic school children and no homeschoolers to offset that.
@Brendan_m_Hodge@PillarCatholic If the number of Catholic homeschoolers were 400,000, that would mean less than 10% are enrolled or otherwise using one of the main Catholic programs, because altogether, we probably add up to less than 30,000 students. That 10% just doesn't seem accurate among groups.
@Brendan_m_Hodge@PillarCatholic I think one of the other points of validation is to look at the numbers enrolled in the organized schools, the same ones you mentioned in the article, Seton, Kolbe, MODG, OLVS, and some others like HSC, CHC, etc.
@lacydelagarza@Brendan_m_Hodge@PillarCatholic the perceived percentage of Catholic homeschoolers enrolled in an organized curriculum (and then getting that number from all of the different schools). The perceptions though are largely based on experiences at events across the country and working in the market.
@lacydelagarza@Brendan_m_Hodge@PillarCatholic There is really no great statistical information. When I was working on my thesis on Catholic homeschooling in 2008, my estimate then was based on two more anecdotal factors, one, the perceived percentage of Catholics among all homeschoolers and two,
@lacydelagarza@Brendan_m_Hodge@PillarCatholic No, we have almost 15,000 enrolled in Seton (most fully, but some in single courses). I mean 100,000 to 150,000 total Catholic homeschoolers in the U.S. I think that is up about 50% over the past 15 years.
The first Starships to Mars will launch in 2 years when the next Earth-Mars transfer window opens.
These will be uncrewed to test the reliability of landing intact on Mars. If those landings go well, then the first crewed flights to Mars will be in 4 years.
Flight rate will grow exponentially from there, with the goal of building a self-sustaining city in about 20 years. Being multiplanetary will vastly increase the probable lifespan of consciousness, as we will no longer have all our eggs, literally and metabolically, on one planet.
@LukeCoppen@Tornielli Hard not to feel a hint of John 12:5 in that undertone. “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”
