Hot off the press! Our latest paper in #AppliedEnergy finds that the future is cheaper & cleaner to connect ERCOT w/ WECC, especially when planning for winter storms like #Uri!
Congrats to @DrewKassel for his first academic article! cc @MichaelEWebber

I am drafting federal legislation to connect Texas to the national electric grids.
People shouldn’t lose power in a heat wave or a winter storm. When we need help, we’ll draw power from other states, and when other states need help, we can sell power to them. It’s that simple.
Option A:
1) more power plants
Option B:
1) more power plants
2) more transmission
3) more demand response
4) more energy efficiency
Option B is cheaper than Option A.
It's cleaner, too. And safer for humans.

I’m not convinced that coaching was ever Wisconsin’s problem with recruiting in any sport.. It has always seemed like the academic requirements for student athletes was a bigger hurdle to bringing in top talent
From the outside, it seems like the recruiting lag has been the thing that bugged McIntosh the most about Wisconsin’s direction. With the way CFB is headed, if you don’t ramp that up in a hurry, you’re going to be left behind for good. Fickell has recruited pro players to CINCY.
The more I work in areas of #energy and #climate, I realize how little engineering students learn about economics or policy.
I truly believe that engineers who will lead the energy transition will need broad interdisciplinary training that most departments are not catering to.
