I don't usually make film recommendations, but Varda Bar-Kar's film is superb -- a great portrayal of a singer who broke taboos about racial segregation. It's now available for streaming in the U.S.
@ZohranKMamdani OK but what about city services? Sanitation? Public safety? Education? Have you ever managed or balanced a budget of this size? This all sounds so abstract + cookie cutter pleasing everyone.
@PrincetonUPress @SkyMuseum @vishaannyc Can't wait to buy this. And loved your NYT piece about making room for 500,000. I've sent this to a zillion ppl to refute their insane ideas about how to build new housing on community gardens etc
@jlef423@IlanaMaier Nothing about NYCs "survival" rests on flattening @elizabethstrgardens (or any of the 500+ NYC community gardens). This is hyperbole/there are alternative options. Bulldozing ESG will set an awful precedent that threatens other community gardens serving less "peak NIMBY" demos
@jlef423@IlanaMaier I was being facetious/my point is not everyone wants a neighborhood like MPD packed w "luxury retail" etc. Community green spaces matter (for all income levels) - so leave them! And yawn to the NIMBY claim, there are many ways to build (needed) new housing https://t.co/xnBDFMmkO5
@ksadjadpour@BeckyQuick Karim, you have been such a steady, consistent source of insight and knowledge about Iran for as long as I have followed Middle East politics. Thank you!
The chances for real progress at COP28 were badly damaged early this year when an oil company CEO was appointed to lead the negotiations. And now investigative journalists have confirmed some of the worst fears of those who criticized that absurd appointment with the shocking news that the President-designate has been using the meetings he has set up with nations around the world to sell more oil and gas. At the same time, the fossil fuel company he leads (the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) has been preparing to launch one of the largest expansions of oil and gas production of any company in the world — timed to begin immediately after COP28 concludes.
Using international climate talks as leverage to shore up support for pumping more oil and gas at a time when we urgently need to phase out fossil fuels is — to say the least — utterly appalling.
@LATAMAirlines I tried calling the contact center but they were confused and did not know how to purchase luggage (very strange). How do I send you an internal message?

A bad week for India's Muslims -- a predictable consequence of the overt Hindu nationalism and Islamophobia of Prime Minister Modi's BJP. Disturbingly little media coverage. https://t.co/D42Qrc5OJH
Indian Prime Minister Modi's Hindu nationalism, reinforced by his ruling party, the BJP, is giving rise to intensifying violence against India's Muslims. Modi could speak out against it, but he doesn't, suggesting that he wants this violent Islamophobia. https://t.co/xGG55f2MX2
