check out state and county fairgrounds along your route- many offer camping, have hookups and dumpsites. Cheap too.
As mentioned WalMarts, Cracker Barrels allow overnights (most) but be good neighbors and park out of the way!
Spent many nights in parking lots of shopping centers and never had an issue but always parked near lights and as out of the way as possible.

@JuiceTheGator I see you live on Sanibel? How many homes are homesteaded on the island? Saw your Mayer speaking out against this saying it would devastate the recovery. It made me wonder if that many could be homesteaded.
