Evidently, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) thinks it can help people it would like to see in elective office by marking them as "the candidate of the American professoriate." Good luck with that, guys. Why not just brand them with a scarlet "A"?
Look, the AAUP should be politically and ideologically non-partisan. But it hasn't been that for a long time. It claimed to be, but it wasn't. So, I'm glad that the venerable organization is finally providing a little truth in advertising. It's making official the partisanship it has long practiced. It has gone the way of the ACLU, Amnesty International, and so many other once non-partisan organizations.

Wolfson’s answer is essentially that the AAUP was founded as a “professional association” but is now more of a “union” and a “political organization.”
