Despite the high prevalence of pain, it wasn’t linked to significant distress in patients with spine mets. Emotional symptoms like anxiety and fear had a much greater impact. Important implications for supportive care.

Today, Duke was home to the 2025 Brain Tumor Epidemiology Consortium conference. Among the speakers were Duke's @DrVanSwearingen , presenting on the Brain and Spine Metastasis Awareness Campaign (https://t.co/3Jf5zYuIeG) and Quinn Ostrom, who hosted and gave opening remarks.
MIS + awake spine = game changer for frail patients! 74yo with Parkinson’s & neurogenic claudication from L4–5 stenosis. Had tried PT & injections. Then, @abdelbarrspine performed awake decompression. No complications, and a year later she's back to activities—including boxing🥊
Some of the best surgeries we do is no surgery at all! It's great to work with an interdisciplinary team -working on lifestyle changes, specific injections, PT/OT, chiropractic care and the patient's back pain is resolved without surgery.
