The final item in the public session is to hear motions from councillors. The first is from Cllr Kerr for the council to express its opposition to any closure to Oswestry Post Office. The second is from Cllr Boddington is for the council to support the county's farmers.
A lot could be said about today’s 'new milestones'. But there has been little focus on one major omission: the UK has no credible plan for how we will cope with extreme changes in the climate.
That’s why I’m calling for an extra mission: a National Adaptation Plan
A short 🧵
The lovely Oswestry 10k with the dapper Mayor Mike Isherwood at the finish line. Thanks to Alan Lewis and his great team of volunteers.

Says it all really: Green Party Councillors supported by Conservatives, respond to the winter fuel emergency by getting help to those who need it most whilst Lib Dem Councillors dither. https://t.co/79PgsAU0Au
... "The members have been very grateful for the help they have received and the welcome they have had in our town at a time of huge need," the letter adds. Lovely.
Quite a nice story here. £3,000 of a £10k grant to the Ukrainian Refugee Support Hub Committee has been returned unspent as many refugees are now "almost entirely settled in their own homes," a letter from the support hub says...
The results are in...13 years of Tory rule in Government and Shropshire results in nearly every Dept forecasting an overspend and the Council likely to end its term with just £1.5m in reserves. What a legacy.
Shropshire Council will call on chancellor Rachel Reeves to rethink planned cuts to winter fuel payments to pensioners, as councillors locked horns over government policy

How to turn a difficult decision into a disastrous one by acting too hastily, not considering the environmental implications and not publishing an equality impact assessment. Shropshire deserves a lot better than this.
A council will not be reducing the cost of paying for garden waste bins to be emptied - or halting plans for residents to have to book to use recycling centres. https://t.co/osZr3BSI2W
Cllr Julian Dean calls the motion "grandstanding" and adds "you can smell the hypocrisy from the top of the county to the bottom", pointing out that the Con/Lib coalition govt first introduced changes to the winter fuel allowance in 2010.
Variety of comments from opposition members on this as you might expect. Lib Dem Cllr Rob Wilson(Copthorne) says charges scheme is "rushed and not properly thought through" while Duncan Kerr (Green/Oswestry South) agrees, warns members: "act at haste and repent at leisure".
