New review: We synthesized the fast-growing literature on empathic AI. Consistent finding: AI-generated emotional support is rated higher than human responses, but people's knowledge of the source dramatically shapes their perceptions. W/ @_desmond_ong@Amit_Goldenb@AnatPerry
People in different countries are accurate at guessing how many people in their society would be willing to donate 1% of their income to fight climate change, BUT they systematically UNDERESTIMATE support. @climatenews@ClimateReality
Would you prefer to get $0.10 for sure, or a 0.01% chance of getting $1,000 for every bottle recycled?
My PhD student extraordinaire Jade Radke tested it with people in British Columbia and Alberta by setting up recycling tables and asking people to return beverage containers.
We find that people much prefer the chance to win $1,000 over the sure $0.10; they feel happier about the opportunity to get money; and they bring 47% more bottles to recycle when the probabilistic option is offered!
Our work offers interesting policy implications for current beverage container recycling programs in Canada. This builds on the Nobel-Prize winning work by Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky, showing that probabilistic rewards may be more motivating than small certain gains in getting people to recycle. The only country in the world that has a similar recycling lottery is Norway and their bottle return rate is close to 100%! The probabilistic refund could be their secret sauce. Hope Canada can adopt this innovative idea as well!

People, just stop doing Frontiers special issues. Find a nice diamond open access journal, and self-publish and collaboratively peer review the set of papers you all want to write. Do not give Frontiers money. If anything, they hurt your reputation. MDPI is
even worse.

Statistics is hard enough for most people as it is; please stop using the phrases "type I" and "type II" errors.
Unless, of course, your goal is to confuse people - in which case, congrats - you've succeeded!
Just say "false positive" and "false negative" instead.
@jonj YES! This is what caught my interest--we are just hoping to find a personal connection (like a friend-of-a-friend who's involved in one of the churches)
I am searching for people to interview for my new book who either: (1) moved to the Midwest for climate-change reasons or (2) belong to a church that has installed solar panels. Probably a long shot, but if you have any leads, please let me know!
