After Saturday’s wash out a few volunteers made the most of the sunny evening to put some woodchip around the orchard trees, to help suppress the grass and weeds, and keep in moisture.
Nice to see some apples and pears coming too!
@ProjectOrchard
** With the strong gusts and heavy showers we have decided to cancel the volunteer session today unfortunately. Hope to reschedule shortly, watch this space **
🌦️ We are hoping rain will ease in morning so WILL go ahead with volunteer day, but keep eye out for messages.
🌳Please join us 10am (meet top of Park) to help mulch the orchard trees with wood chip. Bring shovel/gardenbags/wheelbarrow if you have one. Many hands make light work!
A big thank you to Evie at Swansea Council nature team for organising, and to parks department for helping with the “cut and collect” management of the meadow.
We have a picnic and species ID session coming up soon to find out more, watch this space and join us then
🌸 We are excited to announce that we counted a massive 2842 orchids in the park yesterday! And other species coming through too such as yellow rattle, clover, butter cups, ox eye daisy and more.
Watering team out this morning in the sunshine ☀️ Each tree in the community orchard has had a good drink but if you can take a bottle to the park when you’re out and about and give a tree a quick water it would be really helpful.
@ProjectOrchard
💧As the weather has been so dry, we need a bit of help watering the community orchard. It has been done a couple of times but if anyone is available with a watering can at 9am tomorrow morning (Saturday 3rd June) please meet at the Community Orchard at the top of the park 👍
We’ve put some animal homes around the park today including:
🦔 Hedgehog houses
🐸 Toad abodes
🐝 Bee hotels
If you see them please leave them undisturbed.
Purchased thanks to our grant from @PettiforTrust.
A big thank you to @WWFCymru for funding our new litter pickers and hoops from @Keep_Wales_Tidy as part of our #EarthHour grant to get more volunteers active in improving the park.
More litter picking was one of the requests made by participants at our Pizza in the park event
Thanks also to John and Russel from @RSPBCymru who came along to help us identify suitable positions for our new bird boxes, purchased thanks to a generous grant from local animal charity @PettiforTrust .
