@ISASaxonists@Cybren Real soap is made by mixing a fat (traditionally an oil or animal fat) with lye but no one actually does that anymore. Instead we use detergents that work better and are less harsh. It's why you can use modern "soap" on cast iron pans.
@Planet_Sardinia There are only 4 states smaller than Sardinia. There are only 3 states whose size you can add together to be smaller than Sardinia. These are 2 of them.
@ISASaxonists@transjewtalian Unfortunately I have to give this round to the Brits. They've been calling things curry since the 14th century. That long predates any actual Indian cuisine making it to England. It even predates Indian curries from having chili peppers by a few centuries.
@poyotimebaybee@CollinMcrockin A big reason for that difference is the wealth though. Our median household income is higher than any other country. Americans own more appliances per household than any other country. There is a significant difference between the median American and the median European.
@KeithTalentless@RBMEllis The US and UK have similar heat stroke death totals the last few years despite the significant difference in climate and population size. At what point do you think the UK should start investing in AC? 2k deaths a year? 3k? 10k?
@reduced2stone This is just because Americans as a whole are much wealthier than the rest of the world. What are considered luxuries elsewhere are considered essential here because they are comparatively so much cheaper. The median income of an American is like 30% than the UK.
@standrdmotels@tropotropotropo Many places in America are at times hotter, colder, and wetter than England. The one legitimate gripe is that England gets much less sun than most of the US.
@simple_as_grass So what you're saying is that you would like American tourists to enthusiastically talk to you about the weather when you're on the subway? Got it. I'll spread the word.
@sapphyreblayze It's not unacceptable, it's just seen as a sign of poverty. Almost everyone has access to a clothes dryer. Even small apartments have access to communal laundry rooms.
@salingergregor@CryppledSteve@kpatrickpayne What kind of stone? I doubt this guy has a rotary hammer with a 3ft extension in his garage but that's the sort of equipment you can rent.
@Matt87590918@John_Cyrano Americans actually solved this problem a while ago. There are sections of the country that simultaneously get much colder, much warmer, and much damper than (most of) the UK. I have a feeling most Brits are not going to like the answer though.
@Wooflexis It's a matter of perspective. Heating buildings accounts for like 10% of all global emissions. As the world heats up AC is only going to become more and more vital, especially in the global south.
