The article "A brand new game" discussed how most ads on media are personalized ads and how sometimes those kind of ads can "target too much" or be too personalized. Do you find personalized ads to be convenient or do you find them to be off-putting and creepy? #UWJ201 #319
@hinasuzuki13 I think influencer ads are indeed more powerful than random ads we see on websites. With influencer ads, we'd have more attachment and credibility to the product since a person we respect is advertising it, unlike normal ads where we just gloss over them #UWJ201 #319
@PaytonBecker7 Personally, if I was a marketer, I would first try to gather data on how much each platforms show interest in the type of my product. Then I would choose the platform with the highest number, since more people would be likely to be interested in my product #UWJ201 #319
In chapter 3 of Blur, the book described the journalism of assertion as having many negative consequences and the model is on the rise with the prevalence of the internet. Is journalism of assertion something we should try to prevent or is it not possible? #UWJ201 #319
@AbigailLeavins For quality, it's journalism of verification since they place high emphasis on accuracy and completeness. For reach, I think it'd be journalism of assertion as in general the quickest news tends to get more attention and relevance #UWJ201 #319
@jackjensenuw I think to some extent it does increase polarization, as people who purposely seek affirmation news to confirm their beliefs will continue to worsen their view of the opposition due to how they are portrayed on said affirmation news #UWJ201 #319
@CBellmy I think social media platforms should clearly define their own rules for cases where they will deplatform someone and stick to it. If they have clear rules and follow through with it, I don't think most people would question the decision when they deplatform someone #UWJ201 #319
In the readings, some say that medias were too late when banning Trump as the damage is already done. But I think if they ban him too soon, people would question the decision and say they are abusing their power. When do you think would be appropriate to ban him? #UWJ201 #319
@cassier0108 I think they made the right decision but the timing was off. Trump had spread misinformation in the past which goes against some social media rules but they didn't ban him because he was president. Only after the riot did they ban him which is too late in my opinion #UWJ201 #319
@KennaCoan In my opinion, accuracy is just either it's a fact or it's not, so accuracy isn't really subjective. What you described is probably due to how we associate actual clickbait titles with inaccuracy, so we just view all news source with clickbaity titles as inaccurate #UWJ201 #319
@StellaKoondel I think for a news story to be influential towards a society, it first has to cover a topic that is relevant. Then it has to present facts to equip readers with the necessary knowledge for them to understand the topic better and make their own decisions. #UWJ201 #319
I wonder if there is anything we can do as people who are not in the industry to help relieved and eliminate misogyny in journalism? (2/2) #UWJ201 #319
In the reading about Journalism's Sexual Harassment, we learn that women are mistreated and denied of power in the journalism industry. The problem has been relieved a bit in the past decades but misogyny still persists in journalism today. (1/2) #UWJ201 #319
In the 5 Problems With Protest Coverage article, the Protestors vs Police framing say that readers see the police as the law and in-group while the protestors are seen as deviant and out-group. (1/2) #UWJ201 #319
@allisonlgardner I doubt the latter will happen as social medias' main use isn't to get news, so most of them don't share that much news to begin with. And the news that are shared on SM are usually within your bubble and aren't fact-checked so they're not reliable either. #UWJ201 #319
@AlexParizek I think there are ways but it's going to be hard since people who live in News Deserts are accustomed to living without news. So even if we introduce more news coverage to their area, they still might not read/watch more news, or worse yet think of it as propaganda #UWJ201 #319
For Relative HME articles, how much bias would non-partisans rate or do they even perceive the article as bias at all? Would the amount be between the two opposing sides of the arguments or more or less? #UWJ201 #319
@kentzminger24 I think it does partially increase the HME. On social media, if you see someone who is already affected by the HME points out that an article is bias against their point of view. Then you'd notice the points they made and believe that it is bias as well #UWJ201 #319
@AlisonStecker It's hard to determine what exactly quantifies as objective and ultimately it might not matter whether the news is objective or not. As demonstrated by the HME, even if the news is relatively balance, partisans will still view it as bias against them #UWJ201 #319
