🎶You'd be hers if only she would call, In the wee small hours of the morning🎶
So, what’s it like?
Love? It’s like snow. You know how there’s mornings you wake up, and the night before you knew that snow might be coming, but you’d forgotten, then you go to the window and it’s everywhere, & you’re surprised, but not really.
So… is there snow?
All around.
This woman survived Auschwitz. After, Mrs. Satva Mina took the long voyage to Israel, where she laid down roots.
Today — she is celebrating her 100th birthday with her entire family in Israel: children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Happy birthday Savta Mina! 🎊 🎈
NYT: Platner reportedly did know that his tattoo was a Nazi symbol:
"[Graham] Platner’s insistence that he did not know that his tattoo was a Nazi symbol until it became a campaign issue last fall was simply not true, Ms. Fifield said. After all, she said, he had taught her the word for it years earlier, referring to it as 'my Totenkopf.'"
Eden Ben Rubi (23) tried to outrun the Hamas terrorists. But when they threw grenades into the bomb shelter where she fled, Eden perished.
She is survived by her mother Meriav, who she loved spending time with, her father Uzi, and her brother Roei.
This is Eden's last photo with her mom.
Eden was born in Greece, but her family made aliyah to Israel when Eden was a child.
Her uncle, Lior Shikva Assia, wrote on social media that Eden was his niece but he always thought of her as “my little sister. My soulmate and my keeper of secrets. My Edena. You’ve left me with a shattered heart that already misses you.”
In Eden's memory, her family has collaborated with "Wine and Friends" to release a bottle of wine bearing Eden's face and smile.
"Yum" is Greek for "Cheers", the announcement says.
Never forget.
@JakeSherman The “trans mice” to which this impossibly dumb sign refers are “transgenic mice,” not “transsexual mice.” Transgenic mice are used to find cures & treatments for cancer, Alzheimer’s, and other diseases. Lost research when this admin cuts everything that uses the prefix “trans.”
"One quick story involving me.
One year I actually wore a Dodger uniform and sat quietly in the Dodger dugout.
They were playing the Chicago Cubs, and Don Zimmer was the Cubs manager.
I had asked for permission to do it, and didn’t think anyone except some of the Dodgers players knew I was even in the dugout because I crept in right after the anthem.
I sat there with my cap pulled down over my brow, arms folded at my chest, and I wasn’t going to make a move.
At the end of the first half an inning, the late John Vuckovich, who was the first base coach for the Cubs, ran by the Dodgers dugout and hollered, ‘Vinny,’ and he threw the ball to me.
I caught the ball and on the ball it said:
‘If a fight breaks out, I want you’.
It was signed:
‘Zimmer.’
I looked over and the Cubs were just falling down on the bench in laughter, it was some secret that Scully was in the dugout.
But he was just wonderful.
It was an honor, a pleasure, and a huge grace to have known Don Zimmer, believe me."
Vin Scully.
"It's been a great ride for me, a great life.
Everything I have I owe to baseball.
Baseball owes me nothin'.
Ain't nobody has to give me nothin'.
I would be embarrassed if I had a day somewhere.
I don't want no day.
I want to live my life the way I wanna live it".
Don Zimmer getting married under an aisle of baseball bats held by his teammates. Zimmer played for the Elmira Pioneers, and the photo still hangs at Dunn Field.
His marriage to Jean ‘Soot’ Bauerle took place Aug. 16, 1951, at home plate at Dunn Field in Elmira.
Jean was the girl Zimmer been dating since the 10th grade.
“I’d do it again,” 'Soot' Zimmer once told Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan.

A few weeks ago, I watched "Marty" (1955). A very moving film.
People who wish to return to the past because the dating scene now is difficult should watch this film.
Ireland defense for supplying roughly 90% of EU alumina exports to Russia is that the EU never sanctioned alumina.
But when it came to Israel, Ireland didn't wait for the EU.
Dublin pushed ahead with its own Occupied Territories legislation, openly challenging the EU's common trade policy and arguing that moral considerations required action.
Apparently, "we can't act without Brussels" applies to Russia, but not to Israel.
Interesting standard.
It's great to see @RachelMoiselle posting about the Irish alumina scandal (exporting alumina to Russia.)
The more attention on this the better. What a shameful moment for Ireland.
I asked a local councillor if the russian refinery here in Ireland should be sanctioned.
He said yes, if it was supplying Israel.
But Russia? No.
This is Ireland’s sanctions hypocrisy in 90 seconds.
This interview is staggeringly important as it shines a light on exactly what is behind all of the Irish activity against Israel.. Pure hatred. Not priniciple or morality.
When faced with indisputable facts about supplying Russia with a key component that is used for weapons, its ok as long as its not going to Israel.
Maybe this man would like to pick up the phone and have a chat with the Ukraine President or indeed any Ukrainian is living in Ireland.
"Jackie Robinson created the greatest havoc on third base.
He would move off the base almost casually with those small, measured steps, looking first at the pitcher, then at the plate, then back at the pitcher, sending a silent message that he was there to make trouble.
Then he would start that maddening dance, a half-skip, half-hop that screamed at the pitcher.
Often, he would take off, starting down the line at full speed, intent, it seemed, on stealing home.
And then, at the last instant, he’d slam on the brakes.
Or else he’d keep coming.
It was a dazzling, daunting style, a style designed to intimidate, a style that left opponents and teammates transfixed."
"Jackie Robinson."
Art by Bob Mueller.
Jackie Robinson stole 197 bases in his career, made 31 attempts at stealing home and beat the pitch 19 times in his career.
"Babe Ruth hit a towering drive to right field.
Upward and onward it soared in the general direction of the stockyards.
And the last seen of it, it was sailing serenely over the roof of the double-decked stands at Comiskey, with never a hint of slowing up."
Richard Vidmer, "New York Times", 1927.
In 13 consecutive seasons, Lou Gehrig scored more than 100 runs and tallied at least 100 RBI in every one of those years.
Lou Gehrig led the American League in runs scored four times, home runs three times, RBI five times, and on-base percentage five times.
Lou Gehrig finished among the league’s top three hitters in batting average seven times, compiling eight seasons of 200 or more hits, and winning the MVP award in 1927 and 1936.
AND Lou Gehrig set the American League single-season RBI record in 1931 with 185.
"The sport to which I owe so much has undergone profound changes, but it's still baseball.
Kids still imitate their heroes on playgrounds.
Fans still ruin expensive suits going after foul balls that cost $5, and hot dogs still taste better at ballpark than at home."
Duke Snider.
''During the past ten years, I have been directly connected with baseball coaching and it is my belief that Duke Snider is one of the finest baseball prospects that I have ever seen.''
Compton Coach Bill Schleibaum in a letter to Brooklyn`s Branch Rickey about 16 year old Duke Snider, Compton High School, Compton, California.
After leaving the Montreal Royals, the “Duke of Delorimier” would become Brooklyn’s, “Duke of Flatbush” and enjoy an 18-year big league career that saw him hit .295, belt 407 home runs and drive in 1,333 runs.
"I was Duke’s teammate and looked up to him with respect.
Duke was not only a great player, but he was a great person, too.
He loved his family and loved the Dodgers.
He was the true Dodger and represented the Dodgers to the highest degree of class, dignity and character."
Tommy Lasorda.
I don't have anything original to add about this video that hasn't been said by many others. What a total embarrassment.
I would like to think that most Irish people would also find it embarrassing.
