KENYA EARNS GLOBAL RECOGNITION FOR FISCAL TRANSPARENCY

Kenya has earned recognition for meeting the minimum fiscal transparency requirements in the 2026 Global Fiscal Transparency Report released in Washington, D.C.

The country was among 73 out of 139 governments assessed that met the required standards.

The assessment examined key areas, including publication of budget documents, disclosure of sovereign debt holdings and efforts to make audit findings accessible to the public placing Kenya among countries demonstrating stronger commitment to openness and accountability in public finance.

Suba Churchill: Comparing the situation today with what we had in the 1990s, I can tell you ,as a former guest of the state, that the situation has changed considerably. A lot has changed. We now have a multiplicity of political parties, and the civic space has expanded exponentially.
However, we are also witnessing persistent and determined attempts to roll back some of the gains we have made. That is where the real battle lies. The question is whether we will allow a state that sometimes acts out of paranoia.
