@rensdyret@marthann85 You think being a SAHM isn't "working?" That's funny, because when a SAHM is temporarily or permanently unable to do her job--e.g., if she dies or becomes disabled--it costs at least $60,000 to hire people to replace the work she once did.
It’s terrifying to admit it, but America’s entire soft-power toolkit around the world has been almost completely wiped out.
USAID has been gutted, Voice of America has been gutted, and outside the United States about 95% of the media image of America now consists of Trump’s endless outrageous antics — the daily scandals and insults that spark outrage, or more often, fits of roaring laughter and cringe.
This is almost word-for-word the way the most vulgar, most cartoonish Kremlin propaganda of hatred toward America and the entire West has portrayed the U.S. for decades.
Anyone on here w/experience being defrauded by amazon's Italian branch? I've ordered & paid for stuff that was never delivered; tho promised refunds in multiple customer service chats with amazon reps, no refund ever materialized. Anyone else experienced this & got resolution?
Biggest mistake of 2025 (so far!):ordering from @StaplesStores.
All I needed was one (1) printer cartridge. Delivery promised in 2 days.
But no...now it's a whole saga: delivery date was 100% fake & they won't allow cancellation: now I'll have to waste a few days to get a refund.
@vanessahistory@atossaaraxia If you have a chance, could you send me a PDF of the article or a gift link? It's paywalled and Dartmouth doesn't subscribe.
Holy cow, my new book--"Offshore: Stealth Wealth and the New Colonialism"--is #4 on the @nytimes / @ezraklein recommended book list for 2024! Thanks for the boost, @anneapplebaum!

@AlexNowrasteh@ZaidJilani The method you propose--"Try it, let's see what happens!"--is among the least efficient ways of gathering info re: alternatives.
Relevant data exist bc peer nations have privatized postal services. We can learn from them. US exceptionalism doesn't mean "reinvent every wheel."
@AlexNowrasteh@StrangeLand24@ZaidJilani Efficient *for whom?*
Medicare is more efficient at delivering services from the perspective of patients: lowest costs (incl transaction costs) for care.
It's NOT more efficient at extracting profits for middlemen.
Most Americans want the former, not the latter.

AI strikes again:
Some brain-dead content scraper called @Cision has put me--a Sociology professor of 25 yrs--on a list of "editors" & "freelance journalists," selling my name & contact info to firms that now bombard me with PR emails.
@Ford, @Adobe: you're being ripped off.
Calling all social scientists whose work touches on offshore finance! Please submit your work to the special issue of Socio-Economic Review that I'll be guest editing with my fellow sociologist Kimberly Kay Hoang & historian Vanessa Ogle. Due date: 15 May.
