I unequivocally condemn misogyny and toxicity against women.
I believe in redemption.
@grahamformaine opposes the war in Iran that Collins supported.
Platner supports taxing the billionaires who Collins gave breaks to.
Platner believes in Medicare for All, while Collins believes in cutting Medicaid. @FaceTheNation
The intense media focus on Graham Platner is understandable. He is an unknown in a crucial Senate race with a lot of baggage. Less understandable is the lack of coverage of Ken Paxton, whose sins are far worse. That it is “old news” is no excuse. Most voters have no clue.
Hey media
Not a Platner fan, but why is he a nonstop story and not Ken Paxton's TWENTY indictments by a GOP led-Texas legislature, securities fraud charges and his wife's filing for divorce on "biblical grounds?"
I’m not saying Graham Platner should or shouldn’t be a candidate for a Senate seat, but I am saying that the media’s treatment of Platner as compared to its treatment of Ken Paxton is the same as the media’s treatment of Joe Biden as compared to its treatment of Donald Trump. The media bolsters the MAGA narrative that there’s never a decent Democrat nor an indecent MAGA Republican.
Let’s be clear—the New York Times ran a hit piece on Platner using the uncorroborated allegations of a former Heritage Foundation staffer who told her friends that she would campaign for Susan Collins.
Running uncorroborated claims on Platner from an ex-girlfriend who is a professional Republican operative is outrageous from the New York Times. It's consistent with their biased treatment of candidates skeptical of Israel.
Would like to see commensurate discourse about the people complicit in sending innocents to get tortured in a prison camp based on their nationality and tattoos.
I'm sorry, but @jaredpolis needs to resign.
He just handed MAGA their victimhood narrative on a silver platter and poured gasoline on the election-lies dumpster fire.
Everyone saw this coming, and he granted Peters clemency anyway.
Kimmel: I like your football jersey. Supporting Ukrainian team?
Chef José Andrés: My beloved Spanish team, of course. But Ukraine is my team today. They didn’t make it to World Cup, but today they're fighting the biggest match — for freedom and democracy.
Kimmel: Yes, they are.
Chef José Andrés: And can I tell you one more thing?
Kimmel: Yes, please.
Chef José Andrés: No civilian should ever be bombed. Not in Ukraine, not in Gaza, not in Lebanon, not in Israel. No war! That’s why they are my team today.
Susan Collins has been in the United States Senate for my entire life. She has no major accomplishments, and it would be hard to argue that the people of Maine are materially better off because of her decades-long career in Washington.
So maybe the media needs to spend a little less time focused on Graham Platner's character and a little more time focused on Susan Collins's, because she has become a stand-in for a political system that has left far too many people behind.
I'm not defending his actions, but that's why so many people don't give a shit about Graham Platner's moral defects.
You support a man for president who is a convicted felon, twice impeached in Congress, and found liable for sexual abuse by a jury of his peers.
But do go on…
The President of the United States said I insulted Jesus.
You want to know what insults Jesus?
Kicking the sick off their healthcare.
Bombing schoolchildren in Iran.
Deporting moms and babies.
Covering up the Epstein files.
When asked whether Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner passes the “character test,” after CBS confirmed reporting that Platner's wife told his campaign about sexually explicit texts he sent to other women, Sen Chris Murphy (D-CT) says Platner has lived a life of service to the U.S., but “also made mistakes and he has admitted that.”
“I think this is going to be a pretty clear contrast in Maine between somebody who has spent his life protecting us versus somebody who seems to be protecting Donald Trump's corruption,” he says.
centrists libs & rw cannot comprehend that people like his platform. ppl want to abolish ice, hold israel accountable for genocide, end our expensive wars & spend that money on m4a & schools instead. the optics of being a rugged white vet doesn’t hurt, but it’s mostly the policies & his earnest way of communicating them that have made mainers trust him. i have my own doubts abt his service/ merc work - but im not silly enough to assume that ME voters would see that as a negative. the desperate manufactured outrage around his personal issues don’t matter when voters see him as a vehicle to push for changes they want to see in the senate!
URBAN: The allegations are terrible. If this were a Republican, you would be beating the hell out of them
ANSARI: Donald Trump is in the president who's in the Epstein files with allegations from a 13 year old accusing him of rape
I have so many thoughts about this Platner sexting story I don't even know where to start.
Here they are and you can all yell at me about them:
* I doubt this changes anybody's vote in the primary or general election. There's already so much shit out there about him, and a lot of Mainers are sticking with the guy — which is probably a testament to how pissed off people are about the economy and the political establishment in both parties.
* That said, the vetting on Platner was horrific. I get that a lot of people are excited about his economic messaging (I like a lot of it too) and the access they have to him, but his backers really should have done a better job of finding a better candidate (most of them are writing that economic messaging that everybody loves and most of them are people I respect and admire.)
* Leaking a private conversation you had with a candidate's wife is shitty, and I would never work with someone who would do that. Hope the money was good for whoever did it, and I hope you get a cushy job shitting on Dems on Fox News. That's a fundamental violation of trust, even if you hate the guy.
* Platner doesn't seem like an especially good dude, but Susan Collins sucks. She's a rubber stamp for Trump who will approve his SCOTUS picks and certainly isn't going to stand up to him on launching stupid forever wars. If you think about this purely as a harm-reduction voter, I'd rather Platner be in the Senate than Collins. I know she's going to sell out the people of Maine while pretending to be a moderate — I don't know what kind of senator he'll be despire all this oppo.
* Ken Paxton is also a creep and an adulterer and a lot of the Republicans reveling in this are disgusting for ignoring how shitty of a human being Paxton is. Not to mention Trump himself. Paxton literally protected child sex predators he was friends with—that's worse than any of the oppo out there on Platner... yet.
Have at it.
Love you people.
