Bob Ferguson’s campaign publicly announced the endorsement from the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters (WSCFF) on that date during his successful run for governor. It’s listed on his official endorsements page under public safety endorsers.

LEOFF 1 became overfunded (around 160%+ funded status) after contributions from the state, employers, and employees were suspended around 2000 once it reached full funding. The state argues it owns much of the surplus (having contributed the majority historically), while critics (including retirees, the LEOFF 1 Coalition, and some local governments) call it a “raid” on pension assets. A class-action lawsuit was filed by retirees in April 2026 to block it.
