Here's something govt & industry could do today:
⚡️Create quality apprenticeships, leading to proper jobs as electricians on union rates of pay
🤜Cutting unemployment amongst young workers & driving a transition to a green economy
📣Don't let the industry deskill just when we need jobs & training the most. Sign our petition https://t.co/D8arATZTN7
I think that if you’re going to write a piece in the Times urging the government to use and boost more AI, the fact that you are paid by a major AI company should be in the first sentence, or at least first paragraph.
I also think that the best scenario for AI is that it destroys millions of jobs with the prosperity, dignity and community that goes with them.
The worst scenario is the destruction of the human race - a fear openly expressed by an increasing number of senior and experienced AI engineers who are leaving the industry.
And somewhere in between a myriad of horrors such as yet more screen learning and screen addiction for our children.
But I do see that it will make rich men even richer. And that’s the most important thing of course.
Another busy day with teams of organisers on the ground in #Harborne and #SuttonTrinity talking to businesses and residents, encouraging them to email their MP & Councillors to demand a resolution to the bin strike.
We feel a bit sorry if @martinibrooks gets bombarded with emails from constituents - he's been nothing but helpful to us from the beginning. @Harborne_Jayne and David Pears really need to listen to folk if they are serious about retaining their seats in May.
And this push for victory for the binnies hasn't even started properly. Wait until our organisers are joined by scores of bin workers next week!
We really hope the council email servers and MP in boxes have plenty of storage (and were not built by those with anything to do with Oracle 😉) they might need it!
I ❤️ our NHS
We should never forget that behind the headlines of crisis, how important our NHS is, how committed the staff are, and how we need to nurture, treasure and invest in it. What a blessing it is for us all. @DailyMirror#NHS ⤵️
🪧 For a year, workers at @VeoliaUK Sheffield have been on strike - not for more pay, but for the right to be represented by a union of their own choosing.
📝 Over 6,000 residents have signed a petition, sent complaints to the council and @SheffCouncil which pays Veolia millions refuses to act.
The agency workers that @BrumLabour have been using to break the Birmingham bin strike are now themselves balloting for strike action in response to bullying and threats of blacklisting.
@UniteEconomy@BrumLabour It's not just bins. It's SEND. It's housing. Our assets have been stripped. Brum is owned by hedge funds.
BCC have destroyed Birmingham.
📉 Our councils are in crisis. Local govt debt has doubled since 2010, to £122bn. Councils are forced to borrow from govt lenders at extortionate interest rates. Six councils have been declared effectively bankrupt since 2021. Council staff & our services are suffering.
Enough is enough!
Please sign our petition and demand the government acts to support local libraries, parks and social services, fix our roads and empty our bins. Fund our local authorities properly 🪧

🤯 You won't believe what this agency manager tells workers emptying bins in Birmingham!
😡 Have senior managers at a @UKLabour council really said they won't employ anyone who joins a picket line? Isn't that called #Blacklisting ? Shouldn't Labour-run @BhamCityCouncil be against that?
This is a lie.
There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.
But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.
