Stronger partnerships mean stronger support for victims, survivors and families.

EOPSS and @MassMOVA brought together more than 320 professionals from across Massachusetts for the 2026 Victim Services Conference. Secretary Kwon joined partners to share best practices, strengthen trauma-informed responses and improve support for child victims and survivors.

Massachusetts is one of the safest states in the country—and that doesn’t happen by accident.

New FBI data show violent crime fell nearly 7% and property crime fell 9% in 2025. Homicides fell 27%, with Massachusetts’ homicide rate about one-third the national rate.

Those results reflect the daily work of law enforcement, first responders, violence-prevention organizations, community partners and residents across the Commonwealth.

After successfully managing a historic season of major events—from the Boston Marathon and FIFA World Cup to Sail Boston and America 250—we’re continuing to invest in the partnerships and prevention efforts that keep our communities safe.

The @NWSBoston is forecasting a Nor’easter that will impact Massachusetts this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the most significant impacts on Cape Cod and the Islands.

Tips for preparing ahead of the storm:

• Monitor conditions closely and ensure that Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) are enabled on your cell phone. If your community has a reverse 911 system, you should sign up to receive local warnings. ✔️

• Make sure your home emergency kit is stocked with supplies that could help in the event of a power outage, including a flashlight and extra batteries. ✔️

An incredible act of courage, and a well-deserved honor.

When TJ Swenson encountered a shooting on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, he stepped in to help protect others until law enforcement arrived.

Last week, Secretary Kwon joined Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll, and the Sweeney family to honor TJ with the 2026 Madeline “Amy” Sweeney Award for Civilian Bravery.

Twenty-five years after 9/11, Amy’s legacy of courage and selflessness continues to inspire us. Congratulations, TJ!

That proud tradition continues as we welcome F-35A Lightning II aircraft to Barnes Air National Guard Base and begin a new chapter for the 104th Fighter Wing.

These advanced aircraft give the men and women of the 104th the tools they need to protect our skies, deter threats, and keep Americans safe.

The Massachusetts story is, at its heart, a story about ordinary people who find extraordinary courage when others need them most.

We see that courage in people like Madeline Amy Sweeney, a flight attendant who, in the face of unimaginable danger, provided critical information to those on the ground and helped others in her final moments.

We saw that same courage this past May in TJ Swenson, who put his own safety at risk to help people escape the line of fire during an active shooter situation on Memorial Drive.

These acts remind us that heroism isn’t always planned. Sometimes, it’s simply the choice to step forward when others are in danger — to put someone else’s life ahead of your own.

It was a true honor to present this year’s Madeline Amy Sweeney Award for Civilian Bravery to TJ Swenson. His courage reflects the very spirit of this award and the best of who we are as a state.

We remember. We honor. And we are grateful for those who choose to step up.
