Firefighters from across Massachusetts and the nation lined Washington Street this morning to honor @BostonFire Firefighter Robert "BK" Kilduff and represent, in some small way, the depth their of support for his loved ones, his department, and @BFDRescue2.
On this first day of Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and recognize its many contributions to the Commonwealth, our nation, and our world. We also acknowledge the discrimination and hostility that many members of this community have faced throughout history and, in some cases, continue to face today. During Pride Month, we reaffirm our commitment to treating all people with dignity and respect and to fostering communities that are safe, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone.
This afternoon, Massachusetts Public Safety Officials received reports of an audible boom and ground tremors in Eastern Massachusetts. Although we do not yet know the cause, there are no known emergency police or fire requests connected to these reports and we do not believe there is any public safety threat.
We remain in contact with our local, state, and federal partners to monitor any impact and understand the cause when it becomes available.
To close out AANHPI Heritage Month, Secretary Gina Kwon joined Governor Maura Healey and community leaders to celebrate the contributions, cultures, and leadership of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities across Massachusetts.
As the first Korean American to serve as Massachusetts' Secretary of Public Safety and Security, Secretary Kwon is proud to celebrate the values of public service and inclusive leadership. Thank you to everyone who helped make this month’s celebrations so meaningful. #AANHPIHeritageMonth
There is no greater sacrifice than the one made by our fallen service members and the families who carry their memory forward. We owe them a debt we can never fully repay.
That’s why we must honor their legacy not only with words, but with our commitment to support the families they left behind.
Today, we presented twelve Massachusetts families with the Medals of Liberty and Fidelity in recognition of loved ones lost in combat and from the invisible wounds of war. We also honored Major Robert Brandt with the Purple Heart for his bravery under enemy fire in Afghanistan.
To our Gold Star families, veterans, and service members: Massachusetts stands with you today and always.
Last week we welcomed police officials from Mexico for a day of learning, collboration & info sharing. They toured Marlborough Academy, explored training programs, saw a SWAT vehicle display, experience our MILO simulator & engaged in valuable questions and discussion.
#MonsonMA FD and mutual aid battled a 5-alarm fire during last week's hot weather. The DFS Special Operations team delivered a Rehab unit to support firefighter health and safety at the scene through the night. (w/ @CentralMASparks)
Today on Memorial Day, we pause to honor those women and men who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
As part of their commitment to honoring these heroes, the @MACorrections manufactures flags used in Memorial Day commemorations across the Commonwealth. We thank WCVB for featuring the program this week and we’re proud to share that story with you today.
Last night, a third-generation Boston Firefighter assigned to Rescue Company 2, Robert Kilduff Jr., gave his life battling a three-alarm fire in Dorchester.
Secretary Gina Kwon and our entire team extends our deepest condolences to the Kilduff Family, the Boston Fire Department, and those who mourn this enormous loss.
We will never forget Firefighter Kilduff, a hero forever.
As Massachusetts prepares for the extensive and complex public safety operation required to host this summer’s World Cup matches and celebrations, MEMA convened approximately 130 representatives from nearly 30 local, state, federal, and private-sector agencies today for “Operation Red Card.” The technical seminar held at "Boston Stadium" focused on coordinating complex match-day operations ahead of one of the world’s largest sporting events.

Potentially record-setting heat and a chance of severe thunderstorms are in store for today and tomorrow. ☀️🌩️
Early-season heat can be especially dangerous because people may not yet be acclimated to higher temperatures, making it important to prepare, stay hydrated, and check on others before and during hot weather.
It's getting hot in here! If you're breaking out the air conditioner to beat the heat, remember that ACs and other heavy appliances should always be plugged directly into a wall outlet -- not an extension cord or power strip. More electrical safety tips: https://t.co/MMZO4DIDJu
We have some hot weather in the forecast this week, and the DFS Special Operations team will be ready to deliver Rehab units in support of firefighter health and safety. Four units are staged across the state to reduce travel time 24/7/365. Read more: https://t.co/wjFYIpuBxQ
Feels like summer! The NWS has issued a heat advisory for Tuesday and Wednesday across much of MA. With temperatures on the rise this week, keep these safety tips in mind to prevent any heat related illnesses.

MEMA partnered with the Town of North Attleborough to assist survivors of Monday's 7‑alarm apartment building fire that left dozens of residents without their belongings and in need of new housing.
Yesterday's Recovery Resource Center, held at North Attleborough Middle School, brought together 17 local and state agencies, along with nonprofit organizations, to help survivors take their first steps toward recovering from the fire.
Thank you to all the volunteers who participated in this collaborative event for giving their time and offering such meaningful support to those in need.
