Oh.
That.
That pile of wood for the fireplace.
That job.
He’ll just be… Lingering nearby while she’s busy. Pretending that he is not watching intently.
That pile of wood she bought for the outdoor fireplace hasn't been chopped in the three months she's been asking him to do it, so it's gonna be her and her mini chainsaw now.

“I think we’d handle it.”
Flashes her a rare grin, coming to settle beside her, his attention turned in her direction.
“After Christmas, I suppose. Get out there on the road and just go. Call in sabbaticals.”
"Oh yeah? You and me on the back of a motorcycle just traversing the open road across the country without a worry or care except for bad drivers and inclement weather?"
Her dangling feet swing back and forth as she grins.
"Sounds dangerous."
“Oh yeah?”
Lets out a low whistle before he moves to get the brush, starting the sweeping without question, smiling.
“Must be nice. No scheduling issues, no plans. Free to do what you want, when you want. Maybe we should take a page out of his postcard book that we’re growing.”
"Mmm. Well, I mean, I'm no barber, but I think we can make you presentable for polite company."
A tease as she grinned at him, legs dangling from the counter with a light swing - she'd sweep up the mess in a minute.
"We got another post card from Steve. He's somewhere in the —
“I’d trust you to be nothing less.”
He combs a hand through his hair, feeling the shortened ends run through his fingers.
“Suppose I’ll look more presentable at the next dinner we go to?”
"It's pretty straightforward, honestly. I was very thorough."
She moves back to stand against the counter before hopping up onto it as she looked at him and examined his haircut.
"Handsome as ever."
“I’ll pass on the attorney.”
Slowly eases out of her arms to stand, pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“You know me — unless I need to talk to someone, I won’t. I’ll read the paperwork instead.”
"Just trying to tidy things up, you know?"
She's got a soft, unassuming smile, as if the contents of that envelope weren't as drastic as they actually were.
"If you want, my attorney can explain everything to you as well."
“… That’s not what I was expecting.”
Brow raised and eyes curious, he looks toward the envelope.
“I’ll sign. With… Festive flair.”
Or something to that effect, he supposes. Since it is the season, and all.
"Yeah?"
She's got a soft smile before she breaks the eye contact to nod towards a manila envelope.
"Also. Not to freak you out, but I have paperwork I need you to sign. Just beneficiary acknowledgements in case something ever happens to me."
Since they weren't married.
"Oh, I'll clear the rest of my week if that's what it takes. . ."
Looping her arms around his shoulders.
"And one of your Christmas presents came early, if you want it. . ."
