Today, we at the DoE are organising the third edition of the Water and Power Majlis 2026 under the theme “From National Preparedness to Smart and Collaborative Resilience.”

The Majlis is one of our flagship initiatives, organized as part of our national efforts to ensure sustainable and effective growth across the water and energy sectors. This year, it is being held under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week, which is scheduled to take place in the fourth quarter of the year.

We announced today the award of the Taweelah C Independent Power Producer (IPP) project in Abu Dhabi. The project, which comprises a 2.6 gigawatt (GW) Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant designed to enable the possible utilisation of carbon capture technologies in the future, has been awarded to Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (@TAQAGroup), alongside an international consortium comprising Aljomaih Energy and Water Company and Sembcorp Industries.

Mohamed Almarzooqi, Chief Assets Officer of EWEC, said: “As EWEC transforms the UAE’s energy sector through our strategically planned, comprehensive approach that balances rapid decarbonisation with the security of supply, Taweelah C represents a key milestone in our long-term strategic roadmap. The project serves as a bridge that empowers us to accelerate our world-leading renewable energy capacity, expected to exceed 30 GW of solar PV by 2035. Taweelah C also delivers sustainability and cost benefits, with one of the region’s lowest capital expenditure rates per kilowatt-hour and the lowest levelised cost of electricity. This advanced transitional infrastructure enables us to accelerate our decarbonisation timeline while continuing to deliver the electricity powering Abu Dhabi and the nation’s economic growth and prosperity. We are pleased to be working with TAQA, Aljomaih Energy and Water Company, and Sembcorp Industries to advance this important project.”

أعلنَّا اليوم عن ترسية مشروع محطة الطويلة C المستقلَّة لإنتاج الطاقة بالتوربينات الغازية ذات الدورة المركبة سعة 2.6 جيجاواط، والمُهيَّأة لاستخدام تقنيات التقاط الكربون مستقبلًا، على شركة أبوظبي الوطنية للطاقة (طاقة)، إلى جانب ائتلاف دولي يضم شركتَي الجُميح للطاقة والمياه، وسيمبكورب للصناعات.

قال محمد المرزوقي، الرئيس التنفيذي للأصول في شركة مياه وكهرباء الإمارات: "تتولى شركة مياه وكهرباء الإمارات قيادة مساعي انتقال قطاع الطاقة في دولة الإمارات من خلال نهج استراتيجي شامل يقوم على الموازنة بين تسريع خفض الانبعاثات الكربونية وضمان أمن الإمدادات، ويُمثل مشروع محطة الطويلة C علامة فارقة في خارطة طريقنا الاستراتيجية طويلة الأمد، لأهميته في تمكيننا من تسريع تطوير قدراتنا الرائدة عالميًا في مجال الطاقة المتجددة، والتي من المتوقع أن تتجاوز 30 جيجاواط من الطاقة الشمسية الكهروضوئية بحلول 2035، كما سيسهم مشروع محطة الطويلة C في توفير مجموعة فوائد مستدامة، من خلال تسجيل أدنى معدلات الإنفاق الرأسمالي لكل كيلووات/ ساعة، وأدنى تكلفة متوسطة لتوليد الكهرباء في المنطقة، إلى جانب الحفاظ على موثوقية الإمدادات خلال فترات ذروة الطلب، بحيث ستضمن هذه البنية التحتية الانتقالية المتطورة والاستراتيجية تسريع تحقيق أهدافنا بشأن خفض الانبعاثات، ودعم متطلبات النمو الاقتصادي المستدام في أبوظبي ودولة الإمارات. يسعدنا العمل مع "طاقة" وشركة "الجُميح للطاقة والمياه"، و"سيمبكورب للصناعات" في تنفيذ هذا المشروع الحيوي."

Today, we mark the #InternationalDayOfLight 2026 by highlighting the transformative power of solar energy in driving a sustainable, net-zero future for the nation.

Led by UNESCO, the International Day of Light celebrates the importance of light in science, innovation, and sustainable development. This year’s theme, “Light for a sustainable future", intrinsically aligns with our strategic mandate. By harnessing the UAE’s most abundant natural resource, sunlight, we are fundamentally reshaping Abu Dhabi's energy mix, accelerating progress towards a more resilient and decarbonised power system.

We are increasing Abu Dhabi's solar capacity by almost 2,000 per cent between 2020 and 2030, with a forecasted 17.5 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity. By 2035, this capacity is projected to exceed 30 GW, at which point solar is expected to provide approximately 40 per cent of Abu Dhabi’s total power generation.

Adel Alsaeedi, Senior Vice President of Project Development at EWEC, said: “The theme of International Day of Light, ‘Light for a sustainable future’, speaks directly to EWEC’s strategic vision. In the UAE, sunlight is our most powerful natural asset. By transforming this resource into reliable, utility-scale renewable electricity, we are strategically decarbonising the power sector, strengthening energy security, and driving sustainable economic growth.”

نحتفل اليوم بمناسبة #اليوم_الدولي_للضوء 2026، من خلال إبراز أهمّية الانتقال إلى الاعتماد على الطاقة الشمسية في دولة الإمارات في تحقيق مستقبل مستدام وخال من الكربون.

يحتفي العالم باليوم الدولي للضوء تحت رعاية اليونسكو لإبراز أهمية الضوء في مجالات العلوم والابتكار والتنمية المستدامة، ويتماشى شعار هذا العام، "الضوء من أجل مستقبل مستدام"، بشكل وثيق مع الهدف الاستراتيجي لشركة الإمارات للماء والكهرباء، ومن خلال تسخير الطاقة الشمسية باعتبارها أكثر الموارد الطبيعية وفرةً في دولة الإمارات، تعمل الشركة على إعادة تشكيل مزيج الطاقة في أبوظبي بشكل جذري، وتسريع التقدم نحو نظام طاقة مرن ومنخفض الكربون.

نتطلّع إلى زيادة قدرات توليد الطاقة الشمسية في أبوظبي بنسبة 2000% بين عامي 2020-2030، بحيث من المتوقع أن تصل القدرة المُركَّبة إلى 17.5 جيجاواط، لتتجاوز 30 جيجاواط بحلول عام 2035، بحيث تسهم الطاقة الشمسية بنحو 40% من إجمالي إنتاج الكهرباء في أبوظبي.

قال المهندس عادل السعيدي، "نائب رئيس أول - تطوير المشاريع" في شركة مياه وكهرباء الإمارات: "يتماشى شعار اليوم الدولي للضوء لهذا العام "الضوء من أجل مستقبل مستدام"، مع الرؤية الاستراتيجية لشركة مياه وكهرباء الإمارات بشكل مباشر، حيث تُعدّ أشعة الشمس أقوى الموارد الطبيعية في دولة الإمارات، ومن خلال تسخير هذا المورد وتحويله إلى كهرباء متجددة موثوقة على نطاق واسع. تعمل شركة مياه وكهرباء الإمارات بشكل استراتيجي على خفض الانبعاثات في قطاع الطاقة، وتعزيز إمدادات موثوقة، ودفع عجلة النمو الاقتصادي المستدام."
