If you want to gauge someone's agency, check these three layers:
• they believe action does something (locus of control)
• they can tolerate looking stupid (shame tolerance)
• they know there are more moves than they can see (options awareness)
I’m convinced that the key to life is having low expectations and high standards. Low expectations for things outside your control. High standards for things within it. The recipe for a good life.
there's a huge difference between being:
1. Well Known (a lotta people know you)
2. Known Well (some people know you really really well)
don't create content to be "well known" by random people
put yourself out there so that you can be "known well" by like minded ppl
Three things that will make you significantly more likable:
1. Never complain about anything
2. Stop blaming other people or circumstances for your current situation
3. Don't criticize any individual ever (especially to other people when they aren't around!)
Simplest management heuristics that work:
- Always be positive
- You don't need to respond to (most) problems in real-time
- Never lie
- Actually care about your team
- Work harder than 75%+ of your team
- Praise liberally
- Be upfront when someone is underperforming
2025: Chop wood, carry water.
2026: Chop wood, carry water.
This is the most boring New Year’s Day post you’ll read. But it’s also the most powerful.
The secret to a great year isn’t fulfilling outlandish resolutions, it’s mastering the mundane:
Exercise
Do the work
Get up early
Read & write
Eat real food
Limit bad habits
Show up on time
Encourage others
Spend time outside
Keep your promises
Try something different this year…
🤫 Instead of making loud promises, let your quiet actions do the talking.
Do ordinary things consistently for 365 days and that discipline will compound into something extraordinary:
Your best year ever.
Major life hack: Reject worry. No problem has ever been solved with anxiety. Worry is passive procrastination. Problem-solving is active experimentation. Worry paralyzes. Action clarifies. When you start to worry, ask: What’s one thing I can do right now? Then do the damn thing.
One of the hardest and best skills to develop: How to reset quickly.
When things go wrong, do you let it linger, ruminate on it, and spiral?
Or are you able to let go and focus on the next action.
People search for competitive advantages while ignoring the one hiding in plain sight:
Doing what you said you'd do.
People are inconsistent. They don't follow through. They don't follow up...
This means the simple act of being reliable sets you apart.
It's not talent or genius or connections, it's the boring stuff. Reliability is rare.
Once you are:
1. Clear about what you want...crystal clear...and
2. Make a true decision that you will *do what it takes,* then..
3. Getting to your destination is faster & easier.
Most people fumble 1 & struggle with 2,
so never get to 3.
Looks simple, but remarkably hard.
Being yourself requires constant self-reflection and the courage to be vulnerable.
But the alternative, spending your life pretending to be someone you're not, is far more exhausting in the long run.
