Key Cultural Sites at Naggalabi Coronation Site
Naggalabi is a revered cultural site in Buganda, steeped in traditions that mark the journey of a prince to kingship. Here are the key cultural places and their significance;
Buganda House
This house is where the prince stays for several days in preparation for kingship. In the past, a king would spend 18 days here during a period called “Enaku z’obwerinde” (days of tension). During this time, all residents abstained from certain activities, including touching a woman, to honor the sacred process.
Bwanika House
The prince undergoes sacred rituals in this house, but before entering, he takes a cleansing ritual bath called “Akogero.” This act symbolizes purification and readiness for leadership.
Magato
At this spot, the prince is fitted with traditional sandals, a symbolic gesture that his feet are ready to undertake the duties of a king.
Nakibuuka
Further rituals are performed here, culminating in the prince being crowned and officially declared the king of Buganda.
Mboneredde Tree
This ancient tree is a treasured symbol of Buganda’s history. It is said that Kabaka Kintu, Buganda’s first king, used it as his court. People proven guilty during court sessions would plead for forgiveness under its shade, saying “Mboneredde” (I have learned my lesson), giving the tree its iconic name.

Uganda’s tourism 2025
Ugandas tourism for 2025 already looked good by October 2024 and yes, we might go to numbers better than those of 2023 and 2024.
Tourists especially foreign tourists tend to book a year or so in advance, we are already seeing bookings for 2026.
Good also means, we might do for example 3% of what Tanzania got from Europe 2023, I have given those in many of my write ups before.
While Tanzania got 1.83m tourists from Europe 2023, we close 28k from whole of Europe same year.
We may close get 50k from whole of Europe for example this year which is peanut but has a big impact in external spend on our economy!
We are definitely even far more behind than bigger Tourism economy Kenya, our international numbers of tourists are behind our neighbour in south west too, it’s true!
The last 5yrs have been a nightmare for tourism, it started out with handling information around COVID-19 in 2020, we went to Ebola, mpox, security issues etc
Before 2020, the government people weren’t as aggressive as they are today in announcing BAD news! Irrespective of its consequences to business.
In uganda, life is more important than earning like some people not all keep suggesting. During bad times we can borrow but stay alive. Business can go hell.
I have always told you, tour operators will averagely earn between 5% and 10% and the remaining 95% goes into the economy.
Fuel stations will see more safari cars buying fuel, tyre suppliers will see more business, mechanics will be busy, spare parts suppliers will work, car dealers will sell more land cruisers etc
More eggs will be eaten, more coffee drunk, rice, meat, milk, more accommodations occupied, more activities fees paid, shops make money etc
Which means more taxes earned by government, more job opportunities, more entrepreneurship goes etc
The only clear obstacle standing between earning and business loss is politics because it’s a year of politics and nothing matters like politics in uganda, for politicians, it’s their main business.
When my teammates told me things look so good for 2025, I reminded them about 2020, the bookings looked so good and all we did in 2020, was refunding advance payments.
Refunding advance payments didn’t stop in the last 5yrs, when you hear a military person on tv talking about security, know tourism businesses are refunding money paid in advance.
When you see a ministry of health person speaking about disease, know every tour operator is potentially refunding the little they got in advance.
But we shall remain hopeful regardless, we shall work hard as we have always done, we shall fight to survive where possible, hoping the government people handle information better!
The worst bit, we just can’t wake up and throw out employees, as a business for example, we are trying to earn from the neighboring countries to maintain jobs in Uganda.
We hope that changes in 2025! It’s looking better, we hope we don’t only maintain jobs but actually grow a few more opportunities for job seekers!
Happy new year !

A royal return to Buganda.
In July 2022, for Kabaka’s 67th birthday, history was made as Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II received a fully refurbished 1950s Rolls-Royce Phantom IV, once owned by his father, the late Sir Edward Muteesa II. This iconic car, which had been seized during the 1966 attack on Mengo Palace, finally returned home, restored to its former glory at a cost of UGX 500 million.
The vintage Rolls-Royce, one of the only 18 ever made and reserved exclusively for royalty and heads of state, had been kept in the State House till 2013 when it was taken to the Uganda Museum before being handed over to Buganda in 2020 for restoration.
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga described the restoration as a remarkable achievement;
“This vehicle exudes class, just as it did during Muteesa’s time.”
The restoration of this iconic Rolls-Royce reconnects Buganda with a treasured piece of its history.

Yesterday we received the newly constructed Elena camp in Rwenzori Mountain National Park. The camp construction was funded by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities @MTWAUganda.
Honourable we need to Develop events, festivals for our Agri-tourism. We need to Partner with community to cross-promote these activities. And we’re looking up to you to lead into these opportunities. @FrankTumwebazek@wekesa_amos@UNESCO

I appeal to farmers to always apply acaracides correctly & stop mixing them with other agro-chemicals to create concortions wrongly deemed to be more efficacious. Those concortions are dangerous to the health of animals.
