Today, along with my fellow Kent MPs and our French counterparts from Pas-de-Calais and le Nord, we've written to @BorisJohnson@10DowningStreet and @EmmanuelMacron@Elysee to reaffirm our commitment to cross-Channel trade as the UK leaves the EU Single Market 🇬🇧 🇫🇷

Happy 80th Birthday to our President, Rt Hon Ken Clarke CH QC.
A true friend and steadfast champion of pro-Europeanism throughout his illustrious political career.
Today is the 50th Anniversary of Heath's unexpected General Election Victory. As Prime Minister, he successfully negotiated British entry to the EEC.
It is because of Heath & the Conservative victory in 1970 that the UK was an EU member.

We are concerned that the UK is becoming too distant from Europe. Are you?

The CGE has a bright future & is looking ahead, not back
#Brexit it has happened, but there is so much still to fight for
We are campaigning for the closest, practicable future relationship with the EU & strengthening our relationships with sister parties in continental Europe
.@davidmcallister MEP sets out the work that needs to be done in the next eight months:
🔹Ensure proper implementation of WA
🔹Prepare for negative consequences after transition
🔹Negotiate future UK-EU relationship
If this cannot be done, we must #ExtendTheTransition
We must engage constructively and in a spirt of trust with the European Union. Our EU counterparts will rightly regard the UK's ability to honour mutually agreed commitments as an indictor of its future behaviour.
David McAllister MEP: "Let's be clear, 1st January 2021 will not be like 1st February 2020 because not much has really changed in reality....yet."
Only after the transition will the consequences of Brexit be truly felt.
When the transition period ends and without a close UK-EU relationship:
🔹Customs formalities will be applied on imports & exports
🔹UK financial institutions will lose passporting rights
🔹Certifications in the UK will no longer enable products to be placed on the EU market

#COVID19 has added pressure and caused the #Brexit talks to be delayed.
Video conferences are no substitute for face-to-face negotiations.
At the very least, the UK Government should be open to extending the transition.
#BorisJohnson will an accept an Australian-style deal with #EuropeanUnion.
Does he know that an Australian deal does not exist?
The EU & Australia only trade on WTO terms.
If you remember one thing about our Group, remember this:
The CGE is the opposite to the ERG in every single way. It always has been and always will be.
