UCLA Legend John Wooden on being a great teammate:
"A player who makes a team great is better than a great player."
Great teammates are selfless.
• They prioritize the team.
• They look to make the team better.
• They choose to embrace their roles.
Championships don’t make champions.
How you work, how you prepare, how you live- that’s what makes you a champion.
Eventually the game ends.
The standard doesn’t.
“We talk about the will to win.
Let's eliminate the will to win and think about the will to prepare to win.
Because the preparation is much more important.
Everyone wants to win, but not everybody wants to prepare to win." - Bob Knight
You can demand a better standard without demeaning them.
You can hold them accountable without shaming them.
You can challenge them without shutting them down.
You can correct them without embarrassing them.
Call people up, not out.

"Guys wanna to play more?
When you get your chance, you better be ready.
And at practice, you better earn minutes.
Young kids don't come from that... they haven't had to earn minutes."
You don't get what you wish for, you achieve what you've trained for.
Your outcomes are a direct result of your efforts.
Coaches: You can have an open door policy all you want, but don’t assume your players have the courage to walk through the door. If they do, treat their confidence like gold. Don’t use it against them. Instead, listen & offer guidance. Be empathetic & compassionate. Build trust!
God is greater.
• Greater than your past
• Greater than your pain
• Greater than your enemies
• Greater than your temptations
• Greater than your fears
• Greater than your demons
• Greater than your struggles
• Greater than your sins…
GOD IS GREATER!
Caring raises your effort.
Caring raises your intentionality.
Caring raises your attitude.
Caring raises your standard.
Caring raises your impact.
Caring is a competitive advantage.
Teammates who trust, love, and respect each other will strive to make each other better. They will remind each other of the standards. This will lead to a strong and healthy culture.

"Players play. Tough players win." (Tom Izzo)
Tough players play through situations. They compete regardless of the circumstances. They keep playing in spite of poor officiating. They play tough when they are tired. They gut it out when adversity hits. Tough players win!
This Mike Norvell speech after their Orange Bowl loss is one of my favorites.
Every single word. Nothing but the truth.
“Hard work doesn’t guarantee success…But it will absolutely put you in the best position to achieve it.”
