New paper with colleague Mark McKone reconsidering #restoration approaches under climate change. We advocate for "community-level assisted migration", incorporating climate-appropriate genotypes & species into future plantings. #prairietwitter@Eco_Carls https://t.co/2NnqJx6Qqj
Does it matter whether native prairie is managed with grazing or fire? Short answer: not really. But, having both on the landscape is best for maximizing biodiversity. https://t.co/RYj3O1wU7T
I was just appointed to the 40yr review committee of the #NSF@USLTER program. How can #LTER program work to #diversifyEEB? What questions should we be asking? What suggestions do you have? Comment and pls R/T. Thx! #diversityinSTEM
I thought the class teaser that Daniel Groll recorded for @juliafstrand was so great, I convinced him to make me one too. Online Intro Biology @CarletonCollege now has a theme song.
The last day of field work with this awesome Eco_Carls crew! The 20th year of vegetation surveys is in the books, plus soil sampling, earthworms, and outreach w middle schoolers. What a great summer!
Our own #monarch video in the restored prairies of the #carletonarboretum. This prairie was planted in 1996. The high abundance of blazing star makes it a favorite of monarchs (and us!)
The Bald Spot may still be closed off for geothermal work, but thanks to art professor David Lefkowitz and the temporary art exhibit he installed on the construction fence, we can still enjoy the space. We're looking forward to having the Bald Spot back to normal soon!
And my latest for @sciam: A new rice variety could thrive on fertilizer. But experts warn that stemming nitrogen pollution will require a concerted effort among crop breeders, economists, and others. @HSFdn@AAASMassMedia
