I feel like this should be followed by reading Bastiat's petition of the Candle Makers. He argues we need to outlaw the foreign production of light in defense of the domestic producers of candles.
Who is that foreign producer of light?

On the NBA and economic theory: dynamic mechanism design tells us how to redo the draft. A good rule of thumb (due to Reny?) is that stochastic mechanisms like draft lotteries usually aren't best. How to prevent tanking while still having worst team get top pick? Simple! 1/x
They claim these are "reciprocal tariffs." But their actions do not follow any known definition of those words. It's a day of great escalation, not retaliation. What do you think the likelihood of a recession is now?
Disentangling inflationary cause & effect is hard. New study finds that peak inflation was nearly all caused by monetary policy. The stimmy checks had worn out. Was it worth it? Recessions are bad news & record recovery was caused by stimmies & fed. Tradeoffs.

A "Ph.D. economist ... returns to his university for his class's 50th reunion. He asks if he can see the most recent Ph.D. generals exam. After a while it is brought to him. He reads it carefully, looking perplexed, and then says, "But this is exactly the same as the exam I wrote over 50 years ago." "Ah yes," says the professor. "It is the same, but all the answers are different."'
I'll always brag about an economics major. It combines the best of business, social science, and humanities.
Want to learn critical thinking and system understanding? Mathematical rigor? Learn to code? Learn to write and communicate well?
Major in econ!

Sports venues are not good downtown development anchors. The area around Turner Field is much nicer since the Braves moved to the suburbs. And as a bonus, Atlanta residents don't have to pay for a new stadium. If a team owner threatens to move to the suburbs, offer to help pack.
