I am deeply alarmed by the detention of Sama Safi in an Israeli prison. Sama, a 20-year-old Palestinian American student, was taken from her home in the middle of the night and continues to be held without charges. This is part of a disturbing pattern of the Israeli government denying Palestinians their basic due process rights, often at risk to their health and safety. The United States has a responsibility to protect its citizens abroad, and we must hold our allies to basic standards of equal justice under the law. I am urging Secretary Rubio and the Trump Administration to use every diplomatic tool available to bring Sama home safely.
Reporter: Some members of the Jewish community, including Democratic Congressman Josh Gottheimer, were alarmed by the language you used at the rally last week, calling AIPAC monsters who move dark money.
Mamdani: I want to be very clear. We’re talking about a status quo where children are being killed on a daily basis. More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military since the so-called ceasefire.
Even an Al Jazeera journalist, Ahmed Wishah, was killed this past Saturday by an Israeli strike. And when I am speaking about AIPAC, I’m speaking about an organization that has been supportive of the status quo, that has fought any attempt to actually deliver safety to people not just in Palestine but, frankly, throughout much of the region.
And it is a status quo of immorality. It is one that I will not accept. And when it comes to the way in which they defend the status quo, oftentimes they defend it through direct contributions, as we are seeing right now in New York 13.
Oftentimes they also support the status quo through dark money, by funneling money that would have previously come directly from AIPAC through other organizations whose contributors’ identities are only made clear after an election.
And I think it is important that when we ask ourselves how such death and destruction is happening overseas, we also name those who allow it to take place.
Politics is an exciting psycho drama to these people. A game. Full of horrible pant suits and selfies.
The media perform their “journalism” miles away from the real conditions of the working class.
Nauseating.
Keir Starmer could have ended child poverty, homelessness and the grotesque levels of inequality in this country.
Instead, he abandoned those in need, destroyed our civil liberties and facilitated genocide in Gaza.
That is how this Prime Minister will be remembered - and that is the legacy of moral and political bankruptcy he leaves behind.
The crises in our society are not going away. Neither are we - and we will keep fighting for a more equal, peaceful and dignified society for all.
Our country needs a bold change of direction. Starmer lost the confidence of the country because of his abject failure to challenge the power and wealth of an establishment which has taken for themselves while leaving the vast majority in a cost of living crisis. (1/5)
Laura Kuenssberg introduces guest Paul Ovenden as a former close adviser to Keir Starmer.
As opposed to the man who wrote offensive and sexual text messages about Diane Abbott.
LK introduces John Hutton as a former Labour cabinet minister. No mention of what he does today - chair of an arms manufacturer & the trade body representing investors in public-private partnerships!
I guess he sums up New Labour rather well - killing people & privatisation.
Zionists might be some of the most disgusting people in human history.
Every day, when I think it physically can't get any worse, I see something more and more hideous from them. It always shocks me how people like this can even exist.
Hilergruß, Reichsflagge und „Ausländer raus“-Rufe. So wurde in Kassel (Hessen) der gestrige WM Sieg „gefeiert“. Nationalsozialismus und Rassismus auf offener Straße.
"The first foreign visit I would do as leader of the Labour Party would be to Israel."
A 2015 video of Andy Burnham has resurfaced online and is drawing renewed criticism, focusing on his statement that his first foreign visit as Labour leader would be to Israel.
The clip, recorded during the Labour leadership contest, shows Burnham explicitly naming Israel as his priority international destination.
Critics argue the remarks reflect the prominence given to Israel within UK political circles and question why it was singled out ahead of other countries in a leadership pitch.
The footage has reignited wider debate about foreign policy priorities in Westminster alongside the influence of Israel-related advocacy and lobbying within British politics.
The video is circulating again as Burnham’s national profile rises, with the comments from the leadership race now being re-examined in a more critical light.
Muslims, once again, targeted and attacked in the UK, this time in Edinburgh.
None of this is happening in a vacuum.
Rupert Lowe, Tommy Robinson and their ilk have put a target on the backs of Muslims for years. Hardly a surprise people are now acting on their words.
