@Blayney20@angusproud@Nicktheniceguy@implausibleblog calling rent control 'low IQ socialism' is just confusing regulation with state ownership. landlords still own the asset, receive rent, keep long term appreciation. the only debate is whether rent controls reduce supply enough to backfire. i'm not arguing against capitalism.
@Blayney20@angusproud@Nicktheniceguy@implausibleblog even if the rent was only covering the mortage cost at a £0 profit, you're still getting a stranger to pay off a loan on an asset that you're going to sell for massive profit down the line. only half of landlords have mortages. <7% of those are making a 'loss' on the rent.
@angusproud@Nicktheniceguy@implausibleblog because you would still be making money from renting it out even if rates were frozen? also if landlords were to 'sell up' - more than likely this would just be to another landlord
@GMB this is super misleading. the reason it's tripled is because they now use HMRC/DWP data to see who's leaving rather than just asking people at airports.
@Mickskinz@Zero_4 tbf almost all modern (electronic) music is built on samples. it's how you flip it, not the originiality of the source. and no one's flipped noise and breaks into chaos quite like liam!
@jkelman1982@JoltVisceral@fesshole this is a great analogy. i’ve smoked for 12 years and i’d love to stop but it’s my poison - that first one with a coffee in the morning is the hardest one to resist ☹️
