I'm trying to get back on my feet after being really unwell at the moment, so if you come across my tweet above and are happy to retweet it would help me so much-it would put my workshops in front of more eyes. Thankyou 🌿
We know their homes are out there somewhere. We never give up hope. We never stop trying.
We never stop loving them or trying to make their days the best they can be.
But oh we wish we could find those elusive experienced homes for dogs with reactivity or stranger fear.
Please don’t comment extend your area - we already consider out of area for our more difficult to rehome dogs. Help us by giving these dogs a SHARE 💜
Can we find them homes in time for Christmas?
🐶🏡🎄 Please RT to help them 🙏
It's so easy to fall in love with a rescue dog, just look at some of our beauties who are waiting for their special someone to come along.

We rehome within 1.5 hours of Manchester, offer a full 1 month trial and behavioural support if needed while your dog settles in. Longterm fosters where we cover all costs also considered.

#SUSSEX#UK SHELTER DOG CRISIS 💔💔💔💔💔💔
SADLY we are at crisis point financially and temporarily have to stop all intakes after four decades of helping the most vulnerable.
We are facing the most challenging time since I first founded the rescue some 46 years ago and financially crippled as so many others are ...
Arundawn is run by a tiny, dedicated team. We have always focused on helping the dogs that other rescues may overlook due to expensive medical conditions or special needs - the elderly, unwell and those in most desperate need of care and compassion. Over the years we have successfully rehomed more than 10,500 dogs nationwide, of all breeds & background.
However, since the Covid pandemic dog welfare in the UK has changed dramatically. The UK dog population rose from an estimated 10.1 million in early 2020 to around 13.5 million at the latest Dogs Trust Survey, with an additional 66,000 declared dogs imported from abroad during that time. Many of these animals were purchased on impulse during lockdown, and rescues across the UK are now seeing the long-term consequences... a huge ‘wave’ of abandoned and surrendered pets. Many have been bred with little regard to the parents health or temperament, just with the aim of making an easy profit. We are no longer the nation of animal lovers that we were once know as.
Over the last couple of years we have seen unprecedented numbers of dogs needing help. It is heart breaking. People are struggling financially, moving home, or realising they can’t manage the dog they bought during lockdown. It is not just Arundawn but the entire rescue network in the UK that is under extreme pressure.
We are a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation and sadly this crisis has left us in dire straits for the first time. Arundawn receives no government support and relies entirely on public donations. Rising costs have pushed the rescue to breaking point:
In real terms – Since the beginning of March 2025 the OVERALL average costs are as follows :
- 153 Adoptions in this time averaging an adoption donation of £275.49 per dog
- In this same period the average direct cost to Arundawn for each dog was £614.26
- To note that in this time we have taken full responsibility for 160 dogs
This is a ‘loss’ of £338.77 for every dog adopted in this period
To put things into perspective
• We currently have 32 ‘ Shelter’ dogs in permanent foster
• 13 permanently living with Elaine at the rescue plus 6 awaiting forever homes
• 19 in permanent foster homes for whom we are responsible for veterinary costs, food etc for most of them
• 17 dogs in kennels at the rescue
• 11 dogs in council pound kennels awaiting our help
• 21 dogs in foster needing their forever homes
These numbers & associated costs are unsustainable and we cannot see light at the end of the tunnel at the moment.
With fewer suitable homes available and many adopters reluctant to take on older dogs or those with medical needs or even minor ‘behavioural’ problems such as jumping up, lead pulling etc! The situation is critical.
We have always managed to keep going, no matter how tough things got but, right now, we need a great deal of help to survive. Without more support, we fear for the future of both the rescue itself and the many dogs who have nowhere else to go.
We are really hoping that local residents, businesses, and animal lovers generally can get involved by donating, fostering, or spreading the word about the rescue’s work.
We would love to hear from you if you have any good ideas….
We will be setting up a fundraiser to help through the immediate times but really need long term sustainable solutions to enable us to continue the work we all love and help the dogs that need us most.

All I Wanted Was A Mouse For Dinner.
“I'm dead today. I was found by a kind and sweet woman who takes care of wildlife rescue. I was so sick that I could barely open my eyes. He took me inside, rocking me in his warm arms and making me stay warm and comfortable. I opened my eyes, looked at her and thanked her for making my last minutes as comfortable as possible. But I was too sick to keep fighting. I had eaten a poisoned mouse and it made me feel very sick. I closed my eyes for the last time and went somewhere else.
Please, all I ask is to never use poison to kill mice. Poison kills owls like me. Stop using rat poison. Use the traps, catch them and free them. A single share is enough to spread the word."

It would be so so helpful if you could retweet my May botanical illustration & mental health workshop in my previous tweet if you have a few seconds. I've been unable to work since December due to a breakdown (not remotely proud of this) and I'm trying to get back on my feet so if you could RT it would help enormously. I so love teaching people how to draw & how it changes brain biochemistry resulting in better mental health 🌿
Oh for goodness sakes! Is there no end to the ways people will torture these poor WILD NOCTURNAL animals and film it, for likes??
Hedgehogs, like all wild animals, have a natural fear of water.
Yet this poor nocturnal creature has been trapped in water, in broad daylight, with nowhere to hide, no way to escape, and made to swim for her life while terrified.
Please folks, undo your 'likes' and delete your comments. Don't tolerate this animal abuse.
So yesterday I was blocked by the account that's stealing my photos & posting them without credit.
It's a pain as my images are also my business. They shouldn't be copied/downloaded without my permission.
I sell digital downloads of my photos for personal use here;
https://t.co/wRK1yvFiPL
I know it's a risk sharing photos on the internet, but I just love doing it, and I don't like watermarks all over my pictures!
(I'll add any of my photos to my digital download collection, just let me know if you'd a specific photo added!) 😊🐦
Betsy’s special foster to get used to home life has been a resounding success 🥳 So now she is ready for adoption and pawficially looking in for her forever home https://t.co/6CfsRBh7ZD
Foster dad Sam says:
“Betsy is a gentle giant and despite being nervous is starting to come out of her shell and become cheeky and playful. She is great with dogs and humans and she loves a belly rub and a treat. She has an amazing temperament and enjoys watching TV and going to the pub. She is great on the lead, is more or less silent and does not beg.”
Betsy is going to make someone an incredible companion 🐶🥰 We rehome across the North West
Phew.... here's my brand new blog, covering all the birds pics I've taken since the start of the year... there's a lot!😀
Please take a look and retweet this post, it's really helpful, and please let me know what your favourite pics are! 🙏🐦♥️😊

It would be so so helpful if you could RT my tweet below about my workshops👇🏼if you have a spare second or two. 🌿 The algorithm here isn’t so kind to small businesses nowadays.
THANKYOU so much for your continued incredible support here, despite the appalling owner & his ways. Every like,RT & £7 booklet about old ink bottles & our brains that you buy from me literally keeps me in pasta & electricity.Your response to what I make helps more than you know🌿
Recently I've seen, and heard, a lot of people offering fruit to the sick starving hedgehogs they find out in the day.
Firstly, these casualties are dying and need treatment, not food.
Not a second can be wasted - get them to a good rescue (never a vet) URGENTLY.
Secondly, hedgehogs are insectivores.
They do not possess a cecum, which is the part of the digestive system which processes plant material.
So it's impossible for them to digest any fruit, or vegetable, or plant.
The ONLY safe food to offer a hedgehog is complete cat or dog food.
Tragically there are sites smeared all over the internet, written by people utterly ignorant of the needs of hedgehogs, advocating wrong harmful action, and inappropriate feeding.
Don't be fooled by them.
Please ONLY take advice from a good, well-established hedgehog rescue.
It’s been a strange year on Twitter/X but one thing has held true - your incredible support 🐶💜 We’d be incredibly grateful if you’d RT our video to help us find new dog lovers who are sticking with the platform 🙏🙏 If any celebs would help us with a RT that would be amazing!
