Dear Muslim Brothers, let me give you a free legal tip that will be useful for your whole life.
You know the belief that once you married your first wife under the ACT, like a statutory marriage, what my Ilorin people call a ‘Court marriage’, you are then prohibited from marrying one, two, or three more as permitted by Islamic law. That is a misconception and not the true legal position as of the time of writing this post.
The Court of Appeal has held that if a Muslim man married under the Act and later married in accordance with Islamic law, the second marriage is not void.
See MOHAMMED & Ors V. Mohammed & Anor 2024 LPELR-62831.
All my research indicates that this Court of Appeal decision has not been appealed against, so its application remains very valid.
Therefore, the so-called ‘registry’ or ‘court’ marriage does not stop Muslim men from applying the Sunnatic tradition of ‘Masinah’.

Like I mentioned yesterday, if the South doesn’t take education seriously, if they do not empower their youth, the ticking time-bomb that’ll explode will consume all of us. The number of ritualist related killings, the number of area boys we see, the fake drinks and other consumables markets, the baby factories, the rape festival etc etc are all indicators that a state of emergency on education is needed in the south.
Everywhere is silent while bandits massacre 23 farmers in Sauna/Ruwan Gora community, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State. More than 50 people have been hospitalized, the majority of them women and children.
This attack happened in a village near the hometown of Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. The Northwest is gradually becoming a graveyard, yet the suffering of its people continues to receive little attention.

I just heard a story and my body is shaking…
A 13-year old boy in Maiduguri was selling sugarcane in a wheelbarrow for his father.
Inside the scorching sun, he decided to push his wheelbarrow to a nearby tree for shade & for him to rest for a while.
As he pushed his wheelbarrow tired, he mistakenly brushed the front of a parked car & the headlamp fell off. He looked around & couldn’t find the owner. His conscience didn’t let him walk away from the car. So he waited for the owner who happened to be praying in a nearby mosque.
The owner finished his prayers & found this 13-year old boy and the damage he has done. He called the police and ordered the boy be put in prison.
Recently, this 13-year old boy just got released from prison, after spending 47 years in prison, at the age of 60 years.
At this point, I broke down in tears.
He was literally moved from one prison to the other all over Nigeria in the course of this 47 years in prison.
He only got released because a governor granted him pardon.
May Nigeria never happen to you.
