Planetary scientists and geologists dedicated to understanding planetary surfaces and developing new instruments/techniques for mineral and chemistry analysis
Launch window for @LunarTrailblazr opens today! 🚀🌚 Immensely proud of our team and looking forward to getting underway to map water on the Moon. Launching along with IM-2/SpaceX, separating ~48min after launch. @NASA coverage starts 6:30pm ET #PI_daily
Thesis title: “Location, Location, Location: Insights from Spatially-Resolved Microbial Habitation and Activity Patterns in Seep Carbonates at Santa Monica Basin, CA" (and a chapter on microimaging spectroscopy of carbonaceous chondrites)
Congrats to @Caltech@EhlmannLab alum Dr. Ellen Leask on her important findings for Mars history: sulfates connected with basin volcanoes, large ash deposits, late history saline waters -- Terra Sirenum holds an amazing record of Mars climate! Check out the paper 👇
Former @Caltech@EhlmannLab postdoc Lucia Mandon traces more oxidized minerals in part of the Jezero crater delta relative to the floor or later rocks seen by @NASAPersevere in the upper delta
New paper from @Caltech@EhlmannLab grad student Yu Yu Phua et al shows the hydration state of sulfates in Mars rocks seen by @NASAPersevere. More dehydrated than @MarsCuriosity rocks (weird), and phases found indicate salty fluids for at least some of the waters in Jezero crater
This week, we have a plot demonstrating the spectral diversity of the rocks that the Perseverance rover has encountered in Jezero Crater. These spectra show variable iron mineralogy which indicates strong oxidative water-rock interactions in the Jezero delta deposits. (1/2)

Tuesday morning poster, Samantha Baker: Clay mineralogy and stratigraphy in Nili Fossae suggest acidic alteration of transported sedimentary material rather than intensive leaching #10thMars
How did @ErroneousTholus and colleagues get 86,000+ images aligned to make a seamless 5m/pix image of Mars? Find out! Paper here:

New @EhlmannLab paper by @AndrewAnnex showing how lavas on Jezero crater's floor followed topography set by sediments formed under earlier episodes of Lake Jezero - important for interpreting rover data.

.@bethanyehlmann (talk, Tuesday 4:40 pm, Waterway 4): As Mars Sample Return is reworked, it is important to keep the scientific return that led to its prioritization by the Decedal Survey intact #LPSC2024
