This is how the Abeokuta (Egba) and Ijebu stereotypes are passed down from generation to generation. Grandma seems to hail from Ekiti based on her dialect, and in Ekiti/Ondo State, the average family never supports their children marrying from Ogun State.

They don't want to know whether you are Egba, Yewa or Ijebu. They say all of them are the same. This is one of the reasons I laugh when they shout "Yoruba Nation" 😂.

In the same Ogun State, Egba and Ijebu keep mutual malice. In Yorubaland, Ekiti and Ondo hate Ogun State and Ogun State hates them too.

Even Ilaje people aren't speaking 100% pure yoruba. Many of the other towns and villages in hinterlands of Ondo state can barely have a grasp of what an Ilaje man is saying when he is talking to a fellow Ilaje man. Though Ilaje language has a little similarity with yoruba but Ijaw language is just completely off.
