On the margins of the BRICS Summit I also met with Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng of Vietnam for a constructive discussion on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between Ethiopia and Vietnam.

I had the opportunity to meet with President Vladimir Putin as well today for a constructive discussion on strengthening the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Russia.

Our discussions reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing cooperation across key areas, including defence and security, trade and investment, education, and technology. We also explored opportunities to expand educational exchanges and deepen collaboration in cultural and people-to-people ties.

We further discussed strengthening our cooperation on climate and development priorities, including collaboration toward COP32, while working together to expand mutually beneficial trade and economic exchanges.

Saya turut mengadakan pertemuan dua hala bersama Perdana Menteri Ethiopia, Dr @AbiyAhmedAli. Hubungan peribadi kami dan persahabatan kedua-dua negara telah mencatat momentum positif susulan kunjungan beliau ke Malaysia pada 2024 dan lawatan balas saya ke Ethiopia pada tahun lalu.

Pembukaan semula Kedutaan Besar Malaysia di Addis Ababa pada September tahun lalu setelah 43 tahun telah menandakan lembaran baharu dalam hubungan kedua-dua negara. Justeru, saya mengundang Ethiopia untuk membuka kedutaannya di Kuala Lumpur.

Saya turut menzahirkan penghargaan atas dukungan Ethiopia terhadap penglibatan Malaysia dalam BRICS. Kami juga sepakat untuk mengadakan Rundingan Dua Hala yang pertama di Kuala Lumpur tahun hadapan bagi menterjemahkan persetujuan kedua-dua negara kepada tindakan yang nyata.

Potensi kerjasama ini antaranya merangkumi industri halal, pertanian, keterjaminan makanan, farmaseutikal, perkhidmatan digital, tenaga boleh baharu dan pelancongan.

Insya-Allah, momentum ini akan terus dipacu demi hubungan Malaysia-Ethiopia yang semakin kukuh serta kemakmuran rakyat kedua-dua negara.

I am pleased to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit in India, under the theme of building for resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.

Across BRICS, we have capital, technology and markets. The opportunity is to bring them together, create more value, and ensure that value is generated where resources are found. Ethiopia is ready to build these partnerships across minerals, renewable energy and our growing industrial base.

We must also build resilience into our systems, ensure AI serves the needs of our continent, advance predictable debt resolution, and link climate action with economic transformation.

Together, BRICS can turn cooperation into shared value, resilience and sustainable growth.

Today in Mojo, we inaugurated the first phase of a modern logistics center expansion, a 60-hectare hub set to play a major role in making the #AfCFTA a success for Ethiopia and the continent. With capacity for up to a million 20ft containers a year, it enables domestic packaging of dry bulk cargo, saving foreign currency and creating jobs for our citizens, powered by the country's first-ever Rail-Mounted Gantry crane.

Fully digital and part of the DESSU Corridor linking Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda, this milestone strengthens our place in global logistics and opens a new chapter in regional economic integration.

Ethiopia has been, and remains, a steadfast voice in Africa’s continental journey, from the OAU to the African Union ( @_AfricanUnion ), with Addis Ababa serving as the home of our continental Union. As we mark this day, we reaffirm the vision of an integrated and prosperous Africa, while looking ahead to the next frontier of our collective progress.

In this spirit, and in my capacity as the African Union’s Champion for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health, I call on Africa’s leaders and youth to embrace technological sovereignty and shape our digital future on our own terms.

Day of Break Through

Our ancestors preserved Ethiopia's borders with their blood and bones, leaving us a great nation. Today, we ensure true sovereignty through a historic path free from dependency. By shifting from importing wheat to becoming Africa's leading producer, we have saved millions of dollars. Through the "Yelemat Trufat" initiative and the "Made In Ethiopia" initiative, we are ensuring food security, expanding industries, and creating jobs. By implementing decisive macroeconomic reforms that were previously considered untouchable, we are building our nation's economy on a solid foundation. These victories prove that Ethiopia marches forward resiliently against internal and external challenges, carrying immense hope for the coming year.
