This is the Republican nominee for statewide office. Are other Republican elected officials going to condemn the intolerance and racism, or look the other way while it becomes normalized. This is how great political parties self-destruct. Sad.
St. Pete approved a $12 million subsidy for 24 “affordable” townhomes…$500,000 per home. The project’s estimated construction cost: $19.1 million, or nearly $800,000 per unit. The homes are expected to sell for roughly half that.
That’s government math.
You don’t solve affordable housing by subsidizing extraordinarily expensive housing. You solve it with policy.
Fix zoning. Allow density. Smaller lots, Cut parking mandates, fees and permitting delays. Make housing cheaper to build.
But fixing broken local policies is hard work.
Writing a giant taxpayer check instead is easy.
And stupid.
The Alaskan voting system is one of my favorites & is one of the best. However in the age of polarization it actually fails & results in different candidates dropping out to give their party an advantage. A system that ultimately fails it's original purpose. It's sad but true.
Democrats do not have an actual, standalone proposal to ban partisan gerrymandering that does not involve California-style independent commissions - which no Republican in Congress would likely vote for.
@SkylarZander Idk if I would say “never work out”. The Battery in Atlanta has been successful. Nats Park in DC was repaired ahead of time due to its success. YES there are lots more failures but “never” is just wrong.
New @StateNavigate poll: "Our findings come on the heels of the Washington Post/Schar School (GMU) poll that rocked the Commonwealth, showing Spanberger as the most historically unpopular Governor at this point in the most recent Virginia Governors’ terms. 47% of likely voters approve of Governor Spanberger, and 47% disapprove. There’s much more hardcore disapprovers than hardcore approvers, too: 41% of likely voters strongly disapprove of the Governor, while 31% strongly approve; 4% somewhat disapprove, and 11% somewhat approve. This makes Abigail Spanberger one of the most unpopular Governors in the country."
