The official account for the campaign to electrify the entire Sheffield bus network. Say no to Diesel pollution on our roads #ElectrifySheffield#NoFumingBuses
@ElectrifyShef Hi, if the ZEBRA bid is successful, the rapid charging infrastructure is planned for delivery in Late 2023 with electric buses planned to start operation in the region in early 2024. Thanks
the £3 billion annual cost of extending the 5p fuel duty cut is roughly equivalent to the annual fare take of every bus in England — £3.1 billion in 2023. so you could nearly make every bus free for the same cost https://t.co/1bWvqcYVx8
UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has announced that the bus fare cap in England will rise from 2 GBP to 3 GBP at the end of this year.

If you look at the data and cross reference with the diesel buses that run 24/7 through town you’ll see a clear correlation. Make them all electric and watch the air quality vastly improve overnight ⚡️🚌
Greg Fell, Director of Public Health at #Sheffield City Council, shares his thoughts on the air quality improvements across the city, following the launch of the Clean Air Zone in February 2023.
The air in #Sheffield is getting cleaner.
Over a year on from the launch of Sheffield City Council’s Clean Air Zone, annual average data for 2023 shows that the level of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from road traffic pollution has fallen significantly across the city.
What’s next for local bus services in your area? 🚍
Transport Secretary @LouHaigh and Mayor of Greater Manchester @AndyBurnhamGM discussed how the Bee Network could be replicated across the country for better bus services 👇
@SheffCouncil This week we get a bus stop. In Manchester they got approval for a whole new tram network. All this in the week a Sheffield MP became the Transport Secretary
Due to the silence from our @UKLabour representatives this week in regard to public transport we have to conclude that @SouthYorksMCA didn’t have a plan ready to go like their colleagues in Manchester did.
Public transport news this week:

Manchester

In short, Sheffield is getting a bus stop whilst Manchester steams ahead with bran new tramlines and a real plan. This in the week a Sheffield MP was made the transport secretary
We are now 6 months away from the biggest change yet to buses in GM as services in the south come under public control on 5 January 2025.
To mark it, I will today set out our next moves on reducing fares and making the @BeeNetwork the biggest engine of growth outside London. 👍🏻
Get unlimited tram travel for up to 2 adults and 3 children with an Off-peak Family Tram Travelcard.
Valid after 9.30am for the 1-day travelcard and after 6pm on Friday until the last tram on Sunday for the weekend travelcard.

The Sheffield Connect bus now stops outside Atkinsons!
The new stop is MF1 on Charter Row, after passengers asked for the free, zero-emission bus to connect them to even more of the city centre.

@SouthYorksMCA@olivercoppard Are there any public transport updates you want to make today? We were led to believe there was a plan ready to go but was halted due to lack of funding from central gov. Is this still this case with our new Labour gov or are we now good to go?
@olivercoppard@RachelReevesMP Please can you provide an update on public transport for South Yorkshire. We have been told for years that things have been ready to go into action but stopped by the Tories in central government. Louise is the transport secretary now, so why no announcement for SY today?
Unfortunately due to many failures to govern on public transport both nationally and locally our current network here in Sheffield and South Yorkshire is an absolute mess. We were hoping to hear about change today from the transport secretary but Manchester got all her attention
Hi @tomhunt100 as the transport secretary is now our very own @LouHaigh just wondering if the plans from last year can now go into action? If any city needs to “move fast and fix things” its Sheffield
The Council is working closely with the Mayoral Combined Authority to develop a new, exciting vision that will set out our tram expansion plans.
I will continue to press the Government for greater funding for public transport in Sheffield.
@LouHaigh this is from almost a year ago. Now you are the government can you please let us know if this has changed for our region? It’s clear from all the coms today that Manchester is getting more investment so what is the plan for your home county, South Yorkshire?
The government’s promises to level-up by giving us a ‘London style transport system’ are in tatters. In the most recent round of funding, we got just 15% of the money going to other areas across the country.
