@deesnider Wow, it’s amazing how far Jimi’s legacy has fallen. I was a teen in the 80s who grew up on Eddie, but all of us guitarists in that era had massive respect for Hendrix. That seems to have gone away.
@DrGuitar I saw an Eagles documentary where Don Felder said he became so uncomfortable with the band playing political rallies that he had to part ways. I tend to agree with him.
@vurnt22 I had the opportunity to have a good conversation with Jim Hall after a performance in Seattle in ‘93. I asked him about The Bridge and he said those sessions were so much fun and some of the most challenging of his career. They were really trying to push the limits of technique.
@RestrictedDaily The same thing happened to my kid when he was 9. He was a pitcher covering home and was tackled by some huge jackass who thought it was perfectly OK to throw a player to the ground.
@JonKatz79 Nothing against these guys, but they weren’t resonating with the youth. I worked in a record store in Seattle during this period and the only people buying the Counting Crows were dudes over 35.
@paultguitarist@HairMtlMessiah Yeah, I get it. Some DJs spin deep tracks so much that they become as popular as the hits in that region. KGON in Portland used to go deep with Supertramp for some reason. 🤷♂️
@paultguitarist@HairMtlMessiah Was Top Jimmy a single? I don’t remember it getting played on the rock station I listened to and I don’t recall a music video. Great song though. Girl Gone Bad is a sort of prog avenue they peered down but never really revisited unfortunately. My favorite VH song.
@mitchlafon At least he didn’t invite her backstage. I saw Dave on his 1986 tour in the 5th row. He spotted a girl next to me then talks to a roadie and points in our direction. I tell the cute girl that she’s going backstage. In less than 5 minutes she gets a sticker slapped on her chest.
@mitchlafon I like it a lot better now than I did then. Probably because now it’s just one sliver in a great career rather than representing who they are at the moment.
