There is a dangerous legacy of impunity being destructively inherited by Political leaders across our East Africa Region.
The rule of law is no longer merely being ignored it is being openly violated and desecrated.
The detention of Honurable Martha Karua by Ugandan authority is yet another stark reminder of the growing assault on lawyers, human rights, and democratic freedoms in East Africa.
The situation we are witnessing in Tanzania ,Kenya and Uganda is not law enforcement but the explicity weaponization of law for political ends.
We condemn this abuse in the strongest terms and stand in solidarity with all who defend justice, human dignity, and the rule of law in our Region.
BAK MWABUKUSI
PRESIDENT-TLS.
"I RESPECTFULLY CALL ON THE EU PARLIAMENT TO SUPPORT AN INDEPENDENT INTERNATIONAL INVESTIGATION INTO ENFORCED DISAPPEARANCES, ABDUCTIONS AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS INVOLVING MY BROTHER AND OTHER TANZANIANS.”
Speaking before the European Parliament, former Tanzanian diplomat Humphrey Polepole's sister made an emotional appeal for justice and accountability, urging international attention to alleged cases of enforced disappearances, abductions and human rights violations in Tanzania.

Je unaona ninachoona?
Dr. Elsie Sia Kanza’s argument implies two flawed premises:
1. Peaceful social coexistence between Christians and Muslims proves religious persecution is impossible.
2. Mixed religious leadership means religion plays no role in conflicts or crackdowns.
She leans on shared victimhood and joint protests as “proof” it wasn’t religious persecution. This dodges the evidence entirely.
None of that addresses the actual patterns:
✍️Targeted security force actions: Arrest demographics, shutdowns of churches, the brutal attack on Catholic Priest Fr. Charles Kitima (TEC Secretary General, outspoken government critic), abductions of other Catholic priests, and restrictions on worship, assembly, and religious speech.
✍️samia suluhu hassan’s own words: Telling religious bodies like the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) they should not “dictate how the country is run” — a clear signal of state tension with organized religion that dares to question power.
✍️Legal tools for control: The Registrar of Societies can deregister religious organizations (and has) if, in their opinion, their conduct “endangers peace and stability.” This gives the state broad power to silence critics under the guise of order.
Coexistence doesn’t erase targeted repression against vocal faith leaders and institutions. Shared protests don’t explain why specific priests and churches faced violence and scrutiny while calling for accountability after disputed elections.
This isn’t harmony — it’s selective pressure on those who won’t stay quiet.
Tanzanians, especially believers, deserve truth and justice, not deflection.

My Christian Father, My Muslim Mother, and My Country's Truth https://t.co/XIugmjyIG6 via @allafrica
My rebuttal to Kanza’s explanations:
When you avoid truth, nothing will ever change. That is the core issue here. Mnakataa ukweli.
What we are seeing is a consistent pattern of denial, no matter how much evidence, testimony, or international concern is presented.
The European Parliament has spoken. In the United States, the bipartisan Reassessing the United States–Tanzania Bilateral Relationship Act, that passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week. The bill explicitly references concerns regarding human rights violations, repression, and restrictions on freedoms in Tanzania, including concerns about civic and religious space. Kwa nini mnakataa ukweli?
No one is denying that Tanzania has historically enjoyed interfaith harmony. Many of us, including myself, come from interfaith families. I had a Christian mother and a Muslim father, and we lived in harmony. But that lived reality does not erase what is happening now.
Churches were closed & disrupted, worshippers beaten involving Bishop Gwajima’s church, the beating & torture of Fr. Charles Kitima, public threats directed at Pastor Wilbrod Slaa and Pastor Bagonza, and religious leaders across denominations expressing fear and concern. We have video footages, evidences and testimonies. Bado mnakataa. These are not isolated claims. They form part of broader concerns regarding intimidation, selective enforcement, and the lack of accountability when religious leaders or worshippers are targeted.
This is precisely why early warning signs matter. Dismissing concerns instead of addressing them has proven dangerous in many countries around the world like Nigeria where Christians are targeted and killed.
On October 29, 2025, Tanzania experienced violent post-election events involving killings, arrests, and widespread repression. Families are still grieving. Accountability remains unresolved. Yet the official narrative continues to minimize or redirect attention away from what occurred. Yaani- lies and propaganda.
This international response is not imagined. It is not one voice. It is multiple institutions and stakeholders responding to consistent concerns.
During our peaceful protest in Washington, D.C. on October 17, 2025, individuals linked to the embassy engaged in counter-mobilization and disruption of peaceful civic expression. I was there and witnessed it firsthand. Before October 29th, concerns were raised. Warnings were given. People spoke. Tanzania embassy in DC tried to interrupt our peaceful protest -yaani hata international protocols wanavuruga-
Just past Saturday I was asked on interview whether concerns were first raised through diplomatic channels before approaching U.S. institutions and international platforms.
My answer remains simple: Yes. Concerns were raised through appropriate channels, ila hawawikilizi.
More recently, a Muslim sheikh publicly issued threats, yet such statements have not appeared to result in accountability. At the same time, Christian leaders have faced scrutiny and repercussions simply for speaking truths. This Brings division and is very dangerous.
This is not about attacking Tanzania. It is not about dividing Christians and Muslims. Many of us come from both faiths and deeply understand unity.
This is about something far more serious:
• Truth versus denial
• Accountability versus narrative control
• Human rights versus political image management
• Protection of all citizens regardless of faith or political belief
Because when governments consistently deny concerns, refuse accountability, and dismiss international scrutiny as misunderstanding, trust collapses. At the end, truth will prevail.
Only truth, accountability, and justice will move Tanzania forward.
Enough is enough.
Denying the real issues and continuing to promote a false narrative of peace only pushes Tanzania deeper into crisis.

Huu mtego Watanzania hawatoingia.
Kabla hatuja wapa maridhiano tuonyesheni kuwa kweli mnamaanisha kuleta haki kwenye nchi.
