The Sri Lankan racist state must immediately release singer Sangeethsan who has been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act!

The arrest of our beloved brother, Hip Hop Sangeethsan, by the Sri Lankan racist state under the Prevention of Terrorism Act — for expressing through his songs the Tamil Eelam homeland, the glorious history of its liberation struggle, the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland’s freedom, and the cultural greatness of the Tamil people — is strongly condemnable.

The Sri Lankan government, which arrogantly boasted that it had completely eradicated terrorism, is now terrified of a single individual’s song even years after the armed struggle has fallen silent. If singing a song in a temple is considered deadly terrorism, how can Tamils live in peace under the Sri Lankan state?

Is honouring the valour of our departed ancestors and remembering their sacrifices considered terrorism? Is this what Marx and Engels taught the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) government, which calls itself a communist government under Anura Kumara’s leadership? Is this the path shown to them by Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Lenin, and Ho Chi Minh?If Tamils remembering their liberation struggle ancestors is terrorism, then is the JVP remembering its own leaders who were hunted down and massacred by previous Sri Lankan governments also terrorism? Or not?Is this the ethnic harmony and national unity practised by the JVP government, which claims to follow leftist ideology? The arrest of Thambi Sangeethsan has torn off the mask of the JVP party, which has been practising racism for decades under a leftist guise. This arrest once again reveals to the world that the events conducted by the JVP government — such as permitting remembrance on Maaveerar Naal (Martyrs’ Day) — were all mere dramas, and that no matter which government comes to power in Sri Lanka, it will not deviate even an atom from Sinhalese racist policy.

What answer will the international countries, which once destroyed the armed Tamil liberation struggle claiming it was an obstacle to peace, give now? Is this degraded condition of the Tamil people the “peace” that the world countries desired? If even singing a song is treated as an act of terrorism under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, how can Tamils ever live together with Sinhalese? The United Nations and the international community must now recognise the racist, monstrous face of Sri Lanka and stand in support of the Tamil people’s liberation.

Tamil Members of Parliament in the Sri Lankan Parliament must raise their voices demanding the release of Thambi Sangeethsan.There is no greater racist atrocity than preventing people from honouring their own ancestors. There is no worse form of slavery than denying permission for arts, including songs, by labelling them as terrorism.Therefore, I strongly demand that the Sri Lankan racist state immediately release Thambi Sangeethsan, who has been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
