It turns out, Alcaligenes reduces expression of matrix metalloproteinases, which are peptidases that are overexpressed in diabetes and can interfere with proper wound healing. Thus, a common wound bacterium can correct host pathways that are dysregulated in diabetes! (3/4)
Check out the new work lead by my lab @TakuKambayashi lab, and the Grice lab at UPenn. We found in mice that the microbiome and immune system regulate a variety of phenotypes in progeny transgenerationally and that this may occur by regulating small RNAs in the gametes.
