MAGNETO’s backstory is extremely political, why is it that no one EVER complains about the racial undertones of his story, or say he’s being a victim bc of his trauma?

I think both sides are trying WAY too hard to turn LANTERNS into their preferred internet argument.

Yes, there is obviously a racial layer to what John and his family experience. The show is deliberately exploring being Black in America, and pretending otherwise is silly.

But I also don't think the Hal scene is secretly revealing that he's some raging racist.

Hal tells us what's actually wrong with him.

He's afraid.

Afraid of being replaced. Afraid that John represents the end of his time. So he gets defensive, acts like a dick and lashes out.

John even says in the pilot that he doesn't like Hal, but he respects the hell out of him. Their relationship is clearly more complicated than a screenshot and an engagement-bait caption.

That's the whole fucking show.

FEAR of replacement.

FEAR of the other.

FEAR of ourselves.

Even John's mom saying, “Even in space they don't think of us,” comes from her experience on Earth. Meanwhile the Guardians barely thought about Earth at all before Hal and don't particularly trust humans in general.

There's a real racial conversation happening here.

There's also a bunch of people desperately trying to turn every scene into ammunition.

Maybe let the story finish before deciding what everybody represents.
