Yet more data showing that we can improve the mental health of our 26k high schoolers with a simple bell schedule change… Come on, FBISD. We can do at least as well as HISD, right?

@ThisJungianLife Oh! Sleeping beauty!
And a lovely little bit that came up in therapy today… the initial suitors tried to “force” through the thorns, but the later suitor said, “I shall win through and SEE her” … a big difference in approach to the sleeping content! 😍
@LEGOMastersFOX My kiddos really want mini-games … Lego brick challenges they can build and submit to Amy & Jamie - tell me a little shout out to your inspired young builders with a tiny, 30-sec montage wouldn’t increase/maintain your viewership?!

In 2017, in TX, the suicide rate for ppl aged 15-24 was 15.1/100k.
We have 26,405 high schoolers in FBISD.
When teens get enough sleep, suicidality (+depr & anx) is ⬇️
Get teens enough sleep. Start HS later. Save lives.

3,171 crashes in FB by teen drivers during the ‘21-22 sch year.
In WY, when HS start times moved to 8:55a, teen car accidents ⬇️70%.
Could we have prevented 2,219 teen crashes last year? How many can we prevent next year?
@ThisJungianLife This image really resonates with the question of calling the Self.
(And by resonates, I mean I feel both exhilarated in the Kierkegaard anxiety-is-the-dizziness-of-freedom way and terrified in the Sartre live-your-death-and-die-your-life way)
Have you read this? The 2022 paper in @sleepfoundation ‘s #SleepHealth journal summarizes years of research on teen sleep & school start times. Download it now to refer to again & again. #StartSchoolLater https://t.co/KmbmxsMP8H
In December 2021, @Surgeon_General issued a rare warning: Mental health challenges were leading to “devastating effects” among young people. His report included a call to #StartSchoolLater, shown again & again to enable teens to get more vital #sleep. https://t.co/t5Br5B6LoG
@APA Love this article, and I believe many things (including resilience) should be taught on a “growth-mindset platform.” But I’m curious that innate influences (e.g., genetic, intrauterine) are dismissed? No need?
@BrookingsEd@kevin_c_bastian @SarahCFuller1 Yay! Virtually every elem school in @FortBendISD already has available after school care, in case those kids need afternoon supervision!
And swapping start times isn’t the only possible solution to improving our teens health, safety, and academics…

@sbuehler For the humans among us… 🤪
“Can they hear critical, difficult, painful, & frightening thoughts, especially about them, manage their defensiveness & intentionally engage their curiosity & interest while trying to help create meaning & work through the experience?”
Ignore the headline and this is an interesting article on emerging research into momentary fluctuations in mood and emotion - and how these can inform our understanding of mental health problems and treatment https://t.co/dorodq9Vt5
Athletes who sleep on average less than 8 hours per night experience 68% more sports injuries than students who sleep for 8 or more hours. Sleep is all about repair, both mental and physical. #swimming#sleep
“Caretake this moment. Immerse yourself in its particulars. Stop giving yourself needless trouble. It is time to really live; to fully inhabit the situation you happen to be in right now. You are not some disinterested bystander. Participate. Exert yourself.” — Epictetus
