I come from a country where, it takes brainstorming on election campaign gadgets, for people in power to remember that free sanitary pads can be distributed to #AGYW. This is sad!

But the saddest part is, you cannot blame people who collect them. The cheapest brands of disposable #sanitarypads cost between 500 and 600frs, in an economy where inflation is ever on the rise.

I found another way of telling transformative stories in my role as Communications Lead within a feminist young women-led grass root organisation- @LeapGirlAfrica . The #Uniteforabetterlife program has been worthwhile with @UNTrustFundEVAW .

The program may not have ended child marriage, but it addressed one of the causes of child marriage, of which: poverty and hunger. It provided dairy food to school children, sourced from local small holders, who mostly were their parents.

Impact update!
Glad to share that the first international piece I wrote four years ago, contributed in attracting aid from @WFP under the #schoolfeedingprogram implemented in #Ngaoundere-Cameroon in 2021. It increased enrollment and attendance by over 1000. @RekiatuJ 🙏

While leading the adaptation of the #Uniteforalifecameroon project, a gender transformative program supported by #UNWomen through the @UNTrustFundEVAW , I was excited for the implementation phase. #UBL unlike other intervention programs, includes men as agents of change.

3/5 . UBL proved that men want to unlearn healthy habits. Gender boxes weigh so much on the shoulders of men, but they cannot complain, for fear of being called weak. Men want to express feelings and show emotions, but society shuns them. Men want to raise better sons.

5/5. How are u raising sons these days? How are you promoting positive masculinity around you? As a man, you have a possibility of redemption. You are not weak, for being in touch with ur feelings, 4 drinking jus, for not womanizing, for respecting women. You are an upright man.

4/5. Men also experience abuse. Men suffer from psychological violence which is unexpressed and slowly leads to depression. Men have poor notions of healthy sexuality b/c no one taught them. They were allowed to figure everything out. Men want more men's programs, they like it.

2/2. My excitement didn't forecast that separation would be hard. Having spent 8 weeks in 1 of the communities, ties had been closely knit and separation was tear-provoking. But I think they miss our listening ears, more. #UBL pilot program reminds us of the goodwill of men.
